I saw them in San Francisco. The ENTIRE audience was stoned and all 276 people on stage were too, it seemed. Brilliant.

‘In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Bob Dylan – Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 because I’m a literalist.

  2. Paul

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Eluvium (especially their album Copia) as background music because it was the music (and groups like them) that got me through some rough personal times between 2001 and 2007 and would keep me buzzing long after the ‘bud’ has left me.

  3. Hank

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for ‘Je t’aime’ by Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin as background music because it makes whacking off to The Miriam O’Callaghan Show with the sound down a whole lot more fun..

  4. AnPreachan

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Panda Bear’s album Tomboy as background music because it is an insanely good album, full of electronic hymn’s like Benfica and Alsatian Darn and chilled out bangers (not sure if that is an oxymoron) like Afterburner.

  5. Gorev Mahagut

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for ‘Montana’ by Frank Zappa as background music because it celebrates the cultivation of a crop which is legal in several American states and is known for its medical as well as recreational uses.

  6. Pat Walsh

In the unlikely event I would smoke illegal plants I would go for Just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In by Kenny Rogers & the First Edition as background music because both its lyrics & music are, like, far out, man.

  7. Bandy

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for ‘She has no strings apollo’ by Dirty Three as background music because there’s nothing quite like Warren Ellis’ soaring violin taking you on a dreamy voyage through time and space.. The only trouble is, it’s just not long enough. .

  8. carnie

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for “The Chronic” by Dr. Dre as background music because it was the soundtrack of my youth when we used get blunted in my friends shed and then roll ’round the mean street of Whitehall thinking we were straight up “G’s” when in reality we were nothing more than deluded teenage stoners with our trousers hanging around our knees. Ah the good auld days. That’s what’s up yo!!

  9. Mark

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Sublime – Smoke Two Joints as background music because smoke, smoke, smoking da herb!

  10. scottser

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for “sway” by the rolling stones as background music because the timing is so loose that it only sounds correct if you’re as off chunk as they were when they recorded it.

  11. Daisy Chainsaw

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for “A Day in The Life” by the Beatles as background music because it was the first song I heard on stereo headphones, lying in the dark and it was trippy enough without the wacky backy.

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Dopesmoker by Sleep. a 1hour single track Stoner Rock classic about a caravan of weed crossing the desert. its ambition, arguably not a word often used in relation to potsmokers, and its execution are amazing and it would seem like the most apposite and incredible aural background to the circumstance

  13. LeoppoldGloom

The Orb’s Adventure’s Beyond the Ultraworld should be played in its entirety. From Little Fluffy Clouods to a Huge Ever Growing Pulse….. it’s just a brilliant, electro dreamy trip.

Failing that, just dig out side three, put on Perpetual Dawn. It’s laid back, dub electronica would accompany whatever is being lit up nicely.

  14. Niallo

Has to be “space between your ears” from the album strangitude by Ozric Tentacles.
Lets just say, it suits a certain frame of mind.

    1. Liam Deliverance

Good choice Niallo, it’s been a while – *now busily searching through CD collection for Ozrics*

  15. Clampers Outside!

‘In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Gnoomes as background music because they’re dead trippy Mr Whippy.. and well chilled… lovely rhythms and some nicely timed heavy strummin’ …an altogether lovely listen that demands repeat listening so you just may have to bogey that joint from the left hand side after all’

Can’t find Myriad by Gnoomes (not on youtube yet, damn it)… but I did find Myriads of Bees… so that’ll have to do for now, it’s very nice :)

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Cypress Hill as background music because, well, because it’s obvious.

  17. mildred st. meadowlark

In the unlikely event I would smoke illegal plants I’d vouch for Playground Love by Air as it’s mellow sound is just perfect for enjoying an enlightened state of mind. Also it just sounds great.

  18. tarfton clax

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for Spine of God by Monster Magnet _as background music because, they are the band who wanted to build a cage around the Sun and warned us all not to yank on the spine of God. Smoke.

  19. Mourinho

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for
    Counting Crows – Mr.Jones
    as background music because
well, it’s pretty much what I did for a full year of college.

  20. Liam Deliverance

In the unlikely event that I would smoke illegal plants I would vouch for The Sabres of Paradise and Smokebelch II as background music because having being written in 1993 it is of a fine vintage for that style of music and indeed bookends a historical era in the club music movement. At 12 minutes long it is the ideal length for a rejuvenating mini-meditation at lunch or on the bus home or indeed could be viewed as being like a small nap, like the ones you take at 11am in work while appearing to be working on that important spreadsheet. It’s sterophonic, somewhat repetitive, organ-asmic, jingly and stretchy. Close your eyes, crank up the volume and the let the troubles of the world dissolve. Mmmmm…..Zzzzzzzz . . .
