On tonight’s episode of Making it Down Under on RTÉ One viewers are introduced to Elaine Hayde, a Kilkenny woman looking to strike gold in Australia. Elaine is a mining geologist based at Gold Fields mines, 600 kilometres east of Perth where some of the biggest gold reserves in the world.

I just don’t get this program. What’s it supposed to be telling us: your life’s shote in Ireland, emigrate/ their lives are fairly run of the mill but they’ve got a swimming pool in their back yard, emigrate/ moving away is tough at first but ya know with Skype and everything it’s not too bad and sure the folks will be dead in a few years anyway, emigrate!
