That she may be, but her notion that people won’t support the Bill because of being associated with the hard left seems a bit silly. Surely, and please do note the sarcasm, politicians vote according to what is right for the nation, with their ethics and morals…

there are most certainly people out there put off campaigning on issues because of the AAA-PBP hijacking them, case in point Ruth Coppinger calling O”Connell a Bourgeois feminist in this thread, the implication being that the cause of feminism is the property of the far-left – and what kind of hypocrite is Paul Murphy saying ‘the deputy is not able to say that,’ in relation to the imprisonment cases when he spouts off about it in the Dail non-stop in a bid to thwart the prosecutions – in fairness though Bríd is right no matter what way you look at it, I always liked Bríd

Much of modern feminism is petty bourgeois crap. It is a defined type, ‘bourgeois feminism’, and it’s clear Ruth would have little time for it.
Included are nonsense misandry like microagressions, manspreading, etc…. in the petty bourgeois concerns of that strand of feminist tripe.
Ruth would be more of a Marxist feminist considering her political position.

…the implication being that the cause of feminism is the property of the far-left

Is there a lot of feminism on the right wing?

What’s the “Repeal” version of Plastic Paddies?

Riding the coat tails of a movement to gain support and publicity, but when the chips were down failed to reciprocate. Slimy politicking, business as usual.

I heard Kate O’Connell tearing Cora Sherlock’s arguments to pieces on the Irish Times Inside Politics podcast back in early Agust. Whatever about the political games she’s playing here I have no doubt she’s a Repealer.

She’s my local TD. She is a repealer. But don’t doubt for a second that she’s become a careerist politician and willing to put that before principle.

The first part literally translates as “I’m willing to sacrifice my beliefs to score political points”. That’s basically the exact opposite of what you want from a politician. She’s some piece of work.

I love when Copps uses the word “bourgeois”. It gives me a Marxist/Leninist frisson right down to my capitalist running/dog toes!

Political reality: what stands a greater chance of passing national electorate (not broadsheet commenters). AAA bill or bill that’s gone through the “discussions” and “buy in” of forum and oireachtas committee. I can hazard a guess.

Stupid political grandstanding from trots. I want full repeal plus UK regime but trots risk putting it back 5 years at least. And we aren’t getting UK regime so need to reconcile to something less. If they had broken the gov on this do you think the new FF gov with all its rural voters would be signing up to timelines on oireachtas committee.

I’m willing to wait until 2018. If it doesn’t happen then – we hit the streets.

Kate O’Connell – 100% career politician, no ideology, anti-radical, power-hungry purely for the sake of it.

The first part literally translates as “it is not about the content of the bill but rather being associated with those that have drawn it up”.
So she has just pointed out that there is never anything ‘the extreme left’ can say or do without it being viewed prejudicially.

    1. Kolmo

Her one and only concern is how her position will affect her future election, not the well-being of fellow citizens, that’s what you get in a Kacktocracy.
