Katie Hopkins is on the Late Late show this week; she’s a national front type and quite vocal cheerleader for Donald Trump. Donald Trump has been compared to Hitler for increasing the support for far right and xenophobic views in the US; mainly by telling a load of lies about minorities and foreigners and making out there was some kind of Liberal (and Jewish) conspiracy against him and his supporters. So basically, telling a really big lie:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” (Goebbels).

I think Mick is comparing Katie Hopkins to another fascist- the Nazi William Joyce who was an Irish broadcaster on German radio during the second world war. His broadcasts were in English, and basically intended to put the fear of God into the British, which they did effectively- my mother can attest to this.

Thanks dylad, I don’t pay much attention to the Late Late and not very knowledgeable about Irish fascists, although I probably should brush up given the way things are going.

I think that’s kind of a leap. Katie Hopkins is a professional troll who says any old nonsense to wind people up (and very well she does it, too); comparing her to Lord Haw Haw is like comparing apples with actual Nazis.

Doesn’t matter that she’s a wind up merchant. It has the same effect as someone who truly believes that violent ideology and it mobilizes the grunts.

She’s made a very successful career out of being belligerent and obnoxious.
      She’s basically Dunphy with diddies.
      She’s best ignored IMO.

There was a story on her in the guardian when she first appeared that indicates quite clearly she has these views for money, an approach that is perhaps more abhorrent than someone coming from a place of prejudice, ignorance or fear.

      Total wagon.

I have been reading a few people on Twitter and the consensus is that if you ignore people like this they will go away. I do not agree, in fact I think that mindset is downright dangerous. Given the current climate and beyond, they are getting a hearing and will do so much more.

People like her DO believe what they say. And the reason they are getting a platform is that there is some grains of truth in it. She was spot on about the PC labels. And who was that other person? On his money why did Turbity need backup? He should have tackled her srt8 off about her ‘journalism’ then nailed her on Trump’s views of equal marriage.

Oh and Broadsheet, if you ever pull a stunt like anti Hillary again then be prepared for the consequences. I haven’t forgiven you for that yet.

Broadsheet is a blog SOQ it doesn’t have to justify its leanings to you, I’m mystified to know why you think they owe you some sort excuse for having an opinion on any particular subject

        1. SOQ

BS predicted the election win and all credit for that but there is a difference between prediction and actively promoting Trump, which they done.

Now I for one would like to know if that is going to happen again because if for the sake of click bait trolling and flip flopping is to be the norrn then they will find that their core people will just go else where.

Take the Sunday papers this morning for example. Kerian is expressing the fear LGBTI have in New York and from friends, I can confirm that what he is saying is correct. And then you have these clowns trying to ridicule and bully him for giving an accurate account of what is going on.

Is that the level of discourse that Broadsheet want? Really?

          1. Bertie Blenkinsop

SOQ – just to be clear, I think you’re completely in the right to call Bodger et al to account.

I’m just curious what you meant by there being “consequences” and saying that you’d “knock on doors”.

Whose doors and to what end?

And what consequences do you have in mind?

          2. jusayinlike

tbh your coming across as unhinged and over emotional SOQ, threatening the editors and posters is a bit much now

Ah she’s a snobby bint who needs a gig
And keeps coming back into the media with another gag
    She sees a gap -ie skinny to fat and skinny again angle and films herself;
    Just like Jodie Marsh

The market now is Brexit Trumpilism
    She’ll squeeze a few years out’ve it
    Before trying sum’ting else
    That’s show biz

    But
She’s not a smart as she’s trying to let on
And hides this with her ott manners and smug smirking
She’s trying to get you to think she’s as brilliant and capable as Thatcher
But all she is is a Christine Hamilton

Expect to see her on a future I’m a celebrity too

BTW. Its her smurky snobby self importance that I find nauseating and disgusting. The stuff that comes out’ve her trap is just a script that’s she’s sticking to, like a business plan that she’s fully compliant with.

Lay’ve her at it, she’ll be torn asunder at some point in the near future when that trap and self importance of hers drops her into a hole she can’t get out of.
