The Sun reports:

Police have revealed there are more than 500 alleged victims and 248 clubs named in the football sex abuse probe.

The scandal emerged last year when a string of top footballers claimed they had been abused while at clubs’ youth systems and academies.

Police chiefs today announced Operation Hydrant, the UK-wide investigation into non-recent child sexual abuse, has now received 1,016 referrals.

This is up from 819 before Christmas.

Cops are now looking into 184 suspects, 526 potential victims, and 248 clubs.

This is an increase of 100 clubs, professional and amateur, since the last update four weeks ago.

    Wow.

We had an institution of the Catholic church that was part of the fabric of most communities and which ended up being peppered with paedos.

It has long been said that football is part of the fabric of English life and it appears this has been peppered with paedos.

So it would appear that paedos can and do infiltrate organisations where they can have access to kids, which is not news I suppose. At least we are not unique.

I suppose it makes the argument for vetting too, even though I am opposed to the culture of fear, it would seem it may be appropriate when kids are involved.

Maybe there’s just paedos everywhere but they only really manifest themselves and become noticeable when they have access to children. Not sure which is scarier.

        That is a scary thought.

Think it’s the Germans, or maybe one of the Scandinavians, who have a model whereby they encourage those with paedophelic tendencies to seek help before acting on them, emphasising that non-judgemdntal help is available.

It would be worthwhile for any country to have a similar facility in place, bearing in mind that it is a mental disorder where you’re sexually attracted to children, and that it is not illegal if you haven’t acted upon it. But it’s totally heinous and completely unforgivable if you do act upon it.

There’s a staistic that 1 in 4 kids will be sexually abused to some degree before the age of 17. That’s horrific. And it suggests that, despite all the coverage, this is even more widespread than we think.

Labeling the Catholic Church as a haven for paedos distracted everyone, and I do mean ‘everyone’, from the fact a lot of the paedos who were not in any type of religious group were active in everyday society.

The RCC had no more excess of paedos than our Protestant kin. And the ONLY slightly lower reports among Judaisim and Islam can be put down to lack of available sources, and lower numbers of those individuals… of Jews in general and of Muslims in western countries…..

    Just sayin’
