Independent.ie reports:

Two Aer Lingus employees were among three men arrested by gardai last night in an investigation into international illegal immigrant smuggling network through Dublin Airport.

The employees are suspected of using catering vehicles to move illegal immigrants directly from planes that landed in Dublin Airport to a car-park outside the facility.

A senior source said that this meant that the illegal immigrants could avoid immigration and security checks at the airport.

Gardai believe that the scam has been ongoing for a number of years and more than 500 people have been smuggled into Ireland this way.”

I’ll bet plenty more illegal smuggling goes on too, including class A drugs and involving officials of the state. There’s no way scum like the Kinehans and Byrnes make so much money without the help of criminal cops and customs.

      Don’t ya know it Dad

But there has to be a special hell for people smugglers

      Tell’ya wha’

If there were unaccompanied minors and girls forced into …. I can’t bring meself t’say it, in those catering vans I hope those rhymes with punts, and everyone belonging to them, die screaming

in fairness to daa it’s difficult enough to get from airside in…would have to be an inside job really like this…the one I oft wonder about is how easy it seems to be at the smaller airfields

and the ports of course…can’t remember the last time I got stopped and checked coming off the ferry

the aer lingus lads would put them in containers stuffed with sausages. sure, they only did it to make ends meat..

Except you now have to pay for @AerLingus sausages so they’d have to pay extra. Admittedly with human trafficking there is a lot at steak. I’d say Frances Fitzgerald will have a bone to pick with Aer Lingus and the DAA. She won’t mince her words.

Wonder was it the ground beef crew?

How many trips without a security inspection. Even if they did 5 people at a time that’s still over 100.

Well when you think about it – we’re all checked on to the plane and our tickets are checked again when we board. But does anyone make sure that everyone who leaves the plane goes through immigration / passport control? It’s not something that’s occurred to me before but I don’t think it’s monitored at all. Clearly someone spotted the loophole.

I’ve never seen anyone man customs in any Irish airport. And “passport control” is usually just a bored guard who waves you through.

Airport Police not very good at their job if this was occurring for such a long period of time.
