    Fetal positions on a couch are “uncomfortable”… oh… really….

    Abort the position then! Take up another, it’s just a position. It’s not a fatal fetal position, you won’t die from the discomfort.

    These suburban pseudo-sophisticates don’t interest me in the slightest. They don’t know what real life is – spring ploughing for the new potato crop; getting the kids dressed on time so they catch the bus to school in a town 15 km away; trying to phone around and get twenty mothers to turn up at next week’s ICA guild meeting; trying to dry washed clothing on the back garden line in changeable weather; wondering if there’s going to be any dirty talk on Friday’s Late Late etc. Filmmakers should get out a little more, and try lapping up the routine atmosphere in Ballydehob or Knockcrockery on a grey sky weekend.

    Here, I know whoever made this is reading this. What did you shoot that on? It is truly awful, also, the sound is pox. So it looks and sounds like complete garbage on a technical level.

    you all need to go and have serious think about what you’ve done.

      Some sort of film, I think. Maybe it’s about student Angst – that was a buzzword connected to ’60s existentialism. But these young ‘uns probably don’t know anything about that. Phone Joe Duffy and find out.

        Hmm – thanks for that. you’re clearly an insightful type. I’m not overly inclined to phone Joe however, as you encouraged. I did enjoy your reference to ’60s existentialism.

    Can they not sort the sound levels out when they’re shooting? I’ve a VERY basic knowlege of the skill, but jesus christ, different locations and even different places in a single location require different sound recording techniques. The whole thing just comes across as amateurish.

    You can be a part time drama teacher / ski-instructor and go on to govern Canada.

    Think of the flashy dramatic speeches…. while we’re stuck with droll ordinary teachers to rule here in Ireland…. :(

    I’m not involved in this production but I am a filmmaker, and frankly these comments are shameful @Broadsheet.

    Surely an editor could police some of them?

    It’s completely unnecessary to attack people personally for creating something. This is a group of people who, in their spare time, are trying something different. This is low budget, probably written and filmed by the people involved. Spielberg didn’t pop out of the womb with the script to ET. Nolan didn’t have an Alexa in his nursery. Filming, editing, writing, comedy, acting. All are crafts and take time to develop.

    It doesn’t just apply to this post. I’ve seen countless posts receive the same treatment.

    If it isn’t your thing, fine, just say so. If there are production issues, highlight them, sure. But don’t poo on it. Where’s the value in eviscerating someone’s work? There isn’t any. Broadsheet is rife with faceless trolls, who aim to outdo one another with insults. That’s not much of a community. It’s a circlefondle of fuppery.

      They’re not “trying to do something different”. What it is, is a pisspoor attempt at formulaic comedy, an aping of other YouTube stars’ attempts to get mainstream attention, an unironic recycling of cultural stereotypes and the unwanted expression of youth’s limited palette of world experience (devoid of reflection), as if anybody over 23 needed to hear it.

      Different it is not.

    Here here. I think @broadsheet need to reassess what they’re doing and why. Why are these comments allowed stay up? We can’t expect people to stop trolling but we can assume that such vitriolic attacks on a new project will be taken down. Young filmmakers need to feel like they can find their footing, this type of response is so unnecessary and unhelpful.

    I have nothing to do with this project either but I know what it’s like to have my creative work slated by those who would rather attack then put themselves out there. I think Roosevelt sums it up best:

    It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

    Showing some humanity would be a good first step. Failing that, @broadsheet, lets take these comments down?

      Hello there, it really hurts to see the very destructive comments. We are sorry to all concerned. Often the comedy posts raise disproportionate ire on the site. We have snipped a couple of the more outrageous critiques but to remove any more would not be helpful to anyone.
