I had the first three 2000 AD comics, around 1980 I swapped them with a kid down the road for Victor and Warlord comics…..doh! “If I only knew then what I know now”

  2. Specific Gravity

Loved this throughout my teens. Some of the writing and storytelling was exceptional, as was the artwork of Simon Bisley. Great that it is still going strong.

Was never a big fan of Dredd though. Would still have the following ahead of Big Joe:

Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog, Nemesis, Sláine.

    Zarjaz, indeed.

Great Magazine. Loved it, read it from Prog one, and still read it when i see it in the local shop. Nemesis the Warlock vs Torquemada. Be Pure, Be Vigilant, Behave, Wonderful Stuff.

read it from the beginning. so many great stories. Loved when Judge Dredd came to Ireland (island was a theme park) ….typical Oirish fare but funny all the same…. in the timeline St Stephens green was reduced to a shrub called Kevin (which Dreed crushed with his bike) but The green Dolphin pub in Raheny was still there (in real life it has since closed down/changed name) and there was still a terrorist group active (Sons of Erin???).

Strontium dog and Rogue Trooper started off all dark comedy and then went full on good. Nemesis was great as was Slaine. Great storytelling and artwork for the most part….

That covers about all I had to say… I was however miffed that the free Space Spinner never made it to my Newsagents….

Worth noting that Irish writer Michael Carroll is currently sharing writing chores on Dredd and doing a bang-up job.

(And that Emerald Isle storyline was by Belfast man Garth Ennis, who of corse went on to do Preacher, with Steve Dillon RIP. )

    1. Joxer

thanks Nigel….had forgotten the name of the writer for that storyline. last storyline i recall reading of Dredd was when he came back from the long walk and took on Judge Death. Might just dip back in and see what Old Joe is up to these days….

ah 2000ad – i still have about 300 early issues up in the ma’s attic. one of my early bands, the moneyspiders used to copy images of marty zpoc the muzak killer onto our gig posters.

    ace trucking – now there’s a strip..

      1. scottser

not sure bertie. the earliest i have are from about 120 or so, and most of the early ones i have i cut the posters off the back page – my whole ceiling was done in them. i reckon at this stage i’ll just save them for a mid-life crisis – take the week off work, get the beer and ganj in and leave the parenting to herself while i gorge on 2000ad :)

Oh Man, I absolutely LOVE comics.

I get so frustrated when my Mummy irons my jeans, but she’s okay really, I suppose.
    – She just doesn’t ‘get it’, if you know what I mean. Are you with me?

    Comics are great.
Bunty and Judy…. and that one yous are talking about… I forget the name of it.
    The Beezer…that was another one.
    Whizzer & Chips.

None of them were as good as Ireland’s Own, were they?

    This is ridiculous.
It’s like you can read comics and brag about it, like it was a scout-badge you earned or something, and you can continue doing that for an eternity… Nobody even looks funny at you… You can even feel smug about it. People understand…

But get caught playing a Nintendo game ONCE and it sticks with you for the rest of your life.

    + 1 Green Mushroom.

(This is stupid… I even have to reply to myself… Why will nobody talk to me? That was ages ago. I don’t even like that Zelda bloke. I swear to Ganondorf. I was just looking at it. I wasn’t playing it..)

What do you mean ‘you were’..?
I’m still posting on the Reggae thread as I type.
Posting videos, hiding better videos as Easter Eggs for anyone brave enough to click on my name. Entertaining the troops.

I posted a selfie earlier this morning, strictly for all the girls and bertie.

I can do whatever the fupp I like now. I’m Broadsheet Royalty since last Thursday.

    I should write a limerick.

It’s been said again and again
The sword is no match for the pen
    The question’s not if
    The pen is is stiff
It’s where will you put it and when.

    Sorry, I got distracted. I can’t concentrate.

    1. Jesus Wept

You created the animation for Broadsheet on the telly didn’t you?Oh dear. They’re silly little cartoons.

      1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

        Yeah, that was me.
Probably not up to your high standard, with your, eh…
        With your….

        – I’m sorry, what was it you did again?

        1. Jesus Wept

I don’t do cartoons or computer generated animations but It’s still possible to have standards.Do you think there is room for improvement in your own effort? I’d say there definitely is.

My father was a priest and my mother was a nun.

    Okay, that was a lie.
    I was only messing.
We’re all going to go to Heaven, and you can bring your dog.
I don’t know what the story is about cats. I don’t think they’re allowed, but I’m no expert.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

I want you to know y’all
    Here I stand
As the morning gathers the rainbow
I want you to know yah…
    I’m a rainbow with you.

    Sun is shining.
Never let the clouds cloud your judgement, you poopy-pants.

Ask your little sister to stop calling me, please. It’s not funny anymore.
    I’m serious.
