Gardaí get tools to catch uninsured drivers when insurance prices are at their highest.
Well, colour me surprised.
Not saying it’s necessarily a bad measure, but the timing seems peachy doesn’t it?
Kieran NYC
Part of the reason insurance prices are so high is because the insured have to pay for the reckless uninsured drivers’ accidents.
If you want to fix insurance prices, this has to be one of the measures.
danc
yeah.. I’ve no doubt thats a factor but then there’s also the factor that insurance companies and their parent companies are clawing back the millions and millions of losses accumulated in the downturn.
The bigger car crashed (so to speak) so thr little car drivers should pay for that, too

I’m not disputing the need for measures like this. The less uninsured drivers on the road the better.
I just have to question the timing. At a time when people are struggling to afford motor insurance, when the price doubles, nearly, year on year, the bring in a measure that will allow them to catch uninsured drivers. I’d like to say that the Gardaí are better than that, than taking advantage of a situation like this, but as we’ve all seen, they aren’t.

And look how quick the report is published.

Harsh buzz BB!
(although I didn’t read his comments I gathered that Reggae was a source of conflict!)
Kieran NYC
He was a regular source of rants and abuse that got cleaned up before most people read them.

Heya troll. I guess you all stick together making Broadsheet the best cesspool it can be…

Troll harder.
And that’s not to even begin to describe what he did to Bertie.

And you stick with your sacred Fine Gael KFC; never miss a chance you stooge
bertie blenkinsop
You obviously missed him calling me a pr!ck, cůnt, boll!x and bastard at the weekend so, not to mention what he said about my parents.
I doubt you’d be calling me harsh if you had Deluded.
Nigel
Wow, I thought he was just a vaguely tiresome free-form rambling spammer, I had no idea he got that vicious.
Bertie Blenkinsop
He should be banned from the site, plain and simple.
Freedom of speech is one thing but this was vitriolic.
Sorry to hear that Bertie, like Nigel said, I thought he was rambling for fun.
Brother Barnabas
thing is – he’ll be back (if not already back) soon enough, likely with another name. he used to post as Rory for a while, and who can forget his ‘girlfriend’ Catherine McEntee. Generally fairly clumsy effort to adopt different persona to match different name.
Deluded
I did miss it, thankfully
I remember I discussed his intemperate language and aggression with him when he first appeared but he seemed to consider his drunken indulgence a virtue so I just ignored him after that.
And Social Justice For All
Haha I didn’t even see those Bertie!
I still think you should have let your five year old response to him about the reggae though :)
Bertie Blenkinsop
My 5 year old was too busy showing me how to work the telly ;)

Well I think BAM is no different than a few other locals I could mention, in one respect at least;
He takes the t’internet far too seriously
Anyone remember Brian Conley’s ” Its a puppet!!!!”
now say after me
Its the t’internet !!!!!!!!!!
Brother Barnabas
I’ve a couple of mates like memes – everyone around them has moved on and grown up. they’re still banging on with the same old nonsense. it’s fun to drop in and re-live it all now and then, but I wouldn’t want to go back to it 24/7. and they kind of resent everyone else for ‘selling out’ (you say selling out, I say growing up). I suspect that’s at least a part of memes’ resentment, nastiness and arrogance (superior, more enlightened than everyone else etc)
jungleman
I know someone exactly like that. Wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be him

You are such a sad little troll. Why don’t you copy and paste the rules again, you abusive bore?
Bertie Blenkinsop
I actually think he’s already back Hoops, in a different guise.
As you said, you recognise the style after a while.
Brother Barnabas
he wanted to be friends with you, bertie. but you spurned him. went bizarrely nasty, though – beyond a bit of cheeky messing (which I welcome)
Bertie Blenkinsop
Yep, bizarre is the word alright.
I blame the moderators, should have been nipped in the bud long ago.
mildred st. meadowlark
Agreed.
Lads, if ye are going to make rules, and stop us from using ‘bold’ words (honestly!) then you need to be just as stringent in holding up the other rules of the site.
Memes, whether or not you like his brand of madness, is frequently and consistently nasty to other commenters on the site. His rambling nonsense is one thing but the utter poison he was spewing the other day is another entirely, and if he hasn’t been banned, perhaps he ought.

Does anybody know how the Holy Romans rationalised the conflict between “sanctity of life” and “illegitimate” people?
This Irish Times article has a graph about half-way down comparing life expectancy of legitimate vs illegitimate people.
I know that this system suited familirs who didn’t want inheritance claims on a small farm or a meager business by the fruits of dalliance or rape/incest but it doesn’t explain why the church fed into this dehumanising of people.
Mc Cabe’s legal team have hit the nail on the head, Commissioner should have to pay all her own legal costs and if found to have done nothing wrong then seek reimbursement after, not a level playing field when you have mc cabe, Taylor and Harrison having to foot their own bill, also she has assembled her own team of high ranking Gardai to protect her which makes it a real David and Goliath battle

What’s unbelievable is the number of scandals since.
Because the media/opposition/public attention can’t handle more than one Joe Duffy issue at once, I’m afraid it will get lost in the general mish mash.

On a par right now with 1980s Ireland. Bribes, land-grabbling, political favours etc. If you look up a familiar term here, ‘Wabenzi’ you will see the ghost of Charles J. Haughey in your computer screen.

It reminds me of the horror of Limbo, that exquisite torture for the faithful, the true believers, who suffered a still birth or a sudden early death. However “illegitimacy” was the actual torture of people as opposed to a self-inflicted misery.

South Africa on the other hand…. is going to pot! Another Zimbabwe in the making… from what I’ve read.
