The launch of The ‘Anti Austerity Alliance – People Before Profit’ party, October 8,  2015

When you’re slipping behind in the game
Don’t change tack, just adopt a new name
And let the whole world
Watch your new flag unfurled
And then carry on just the same

I suppose the Communist Party of Ireland is already taken and might be too in-your-face.

communism requires absolute infallibility and altruism, basically Jesus is the only one who could pull it off.

Mad weekend planned of catching up with The Expanse and Fortitude with home-made chips, coleslaw and a nice craft cider…

I don’t know why the left even bother.

Apathetic and docile Ireland still ask their Mammies why do I have to vote FF or FG!
Irish Mammy ‘It’s gods will, now shut your mouth and eat your dinner, and then go to mass’.
    Apathetic Docile Irish Son/Daughter
‘Ok Mammy, but can I watch TheVoice first’?
Of course! It’s important you listen to a whining annoying pitch with absolutely no lyrical content’

The X factor generation is a shame to the nation

Or maybe, when normal people hear that AAA-PBP/Solidarity are planning on nationalising Dell, they think that, bad as they can be, FF/FG at least aren’t that bad as Ireland’s “hard left” (a lot of whom’s policies aren’t in fact left-wing. but that is for another discussion).

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

Just out of curiosity, can you actually explain why her idea doesn’t make sense?

          2. Rob_G

Do you think that Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. would stick around if they thought that the government would decide one day to arbitrarily seize their assets?

          3. MoyestWithExcitement

“Do you think that Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. would stick around if they thought that the government would decide one day to arbitrarily seize their assets?”

            I didn’t think so.

          4. Listrade

“Do you think that Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. would stick around if they thought that the government would decide one day to arbitrarily seize their assets?”

God yeah imagine. Imagine if that was what she had suggested rather than saying that the state should buy (not seize) the Dell Limerick factory and keep it going. The Dell decision was a global one, the Limerick factory could still turn a profit. When the market improves…sell it on. It’s a pretty basic tactic that’s been done across Europe in the past. It has nothing to do with seizing anything.

Not saying it was a great idea as it wasn’t, but the region was looking at a factory that was doing ok and not just the lay offs from Dell but the support in the area too. The government was sitting around looking at the IDA to help, she came up with a solution that had been used before. Heck we did it with the banks.

Anyway, not a well thought out idea, but massively misrepresented as “seizing” and taking control. It would have been the purchase of the site as a business.

          5. MoyestWithExcitement

            Couple of things.
            1. I was curious as to whether or not you might have a reasoned economic/business *evidence based* argument for your comments or were you just reciting right wing memes. Whether or not I can refute said emotive meme is irrelevant. I don’t feel a need to anyway.
            2. Even if I did, Listrade has rendered any effort redundant.

          6. Rob_G

How could the state possibly *buy* the factory and keep it going?

Keep it going doing what – building computers?

            (i) why would Dell willingly sell the factory to a competitor (as the govt would be if it went into the hardware business)?

(ii) what type of computers would the state manufacture there? Certainly not Dell computers, as they would hardly want their IP used by another company.

Could you outline what parts of it are a good idea, if my only argument is ’emotive memes’?

          7. MoyestWithExcitement

“How could the state possibly *buy* the factory and keep it going?”

            By making an acceptable offer.

“Certainly not Dell computers, as they would hardly want their IP used by another company.”

“Certainly” You really do just make this sh1t up as you go along.

“Could you outline what parts of it are a good idea,”

The world isn’t binary, young Robert. I never said it was a good idea. Again, I just wanted to see if *you* had the faintest idea what you were talking about or if you were just one of them ‘Durrr, stoopid lefty students’ slogan chanters.

          8. MoyestWithExcitement

For someone who whines about the comment quality and posts the rules in a rage every day, you sure do troll a lot. Anyway, yes. Rob should know better than to think he’s going to get away with vacuous slogan chanting when he’s talking to my good self.

          9. Kieran NYC

            You’ve been away too long.

We’ve moved away from your type of angry trolling. :)

            Try to catch up.

          10. Kieran NYC

            Ha. Good grief.

Anyway. Have fun starting pointless and aggressive fights to entertain yourself.

    2. And Social Justice For All

You’re a bore. Just because you’re allowed talk crap on a show no one watches late at night didn’t mean you are allowed come in here and waste our time and we’re already full up of opinionated trolls with nothing to offer

  7. DubLoony

They are the only “left” group in Europe that don’t support a property tax. Or a water charge.

Maybe they have cottoned on to the growing economy, austerity is over (yes, there are still significant problems!) and that we have been climbing out of the abyss for a few years now.

    1. Rob_G

Don’t forget inheritance tax, DubLoony – yes, that tax that falls disproportionately on the wealthy, and Solidarity are against it.

    2. MoyestWithExcitement

“we have been climbing out of the abyss for a few years now.”

Child poverty and homelessness have doubled since the crash and half the country’s workforce earns less than 26k a year but sure yeah, right wing fantasy economics and pretending the poor don’t exist is the way forward.

      1. Anomanomanom

Again the home less figures are, trying to think of a nice way to say not true, actually the figures are not true.

        1. MoyestWithExcitement

Hopefully there’ll be a story about refugees soon so you can pretend to care about the homeless again.

  8. Joe Small

I can’t take it anymore. Marathon became Snickers, Opal fruits are Starbursts, Datsun became Nissan, Dime became Daim, Oil of Ulay became Olay and Telecom Éireann became Eircom and then Eir. When will the madness stop?
Also, do they have to throw out a load of old letterheads and business cards now?
“Hi, I’m you’re local socialist agitator. Here’s my card. Give me a call sometime”

  9. MoyestWithExcitement

This limerick is a tad disingenuous. From a marketing perspective, AAA was a terrible name. This was a good idea.
