This morning/afternoon.

GPO, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1

Postmasters from around Ireland, including Paddy McCann, president of the Irish Postmasters Union (above with chain of office) protest Post Office closures driven by An Post.

A total of 200 post offices could be closed under new cost-cutting measures.

The postmasters are demanding the publication and implementation of a Government commissioned report by businessman Bobby Kerr on the future of the Post Office Network which was finalised last year.

Mr Kerr’s analysis suggested 80 post office closures and an investment of €56 million in the postal network.

So they demand a serve that will be obsolete in a few years be kept running because a tiny tiny minority still use it for its intended purpose.

An Post missed a a great business opportunity when they closed down their social hubs, not only offering virtual postage stamps but also getting pensioners online and on a new chat app. Maybe it was done and failed, but inviting a consultant in during the late eighties would have been a great move.

If rural Ireland wants Post Offices let the pay pro rata for the services they provide.
I personally lament the demise of my local blacksmith where we used to have the craic!

I bet these are the same people who give out stink whenever the cost of stamps goes up.

It’s a pity there was never more joined up thinking so post offices could be co-located with other government social services, or even take a room in a Garda station or something.

Post Offices could become a new banking force but FG have blocked that business opportunity so our over staffed over priced banks can thrive and make someone rich

Bobby Kerr was having his lunch in Peters pub and loudly backed Singlefarmpayment in the 2:50 at Cheltenham for the win.
    It came in second.
    That’s what Bobby Kerr knows

Kerr is still probably pished off that when they proposed to “redevelop” the GPO, they said they’d put a Starbucks in it, not an insomnia
