What’s the deal with The Express and its dementia stories? Is it a big joke or a front for a scam or what?

An absolutely brilliant headline, I have to say. They’re outdoing themselves.

      Great for the lols.

They can repeat the same headline every couple of weeks and none of their readership notices

To paraphrase Gene Kerrigan – Kenny can’t go until the Middle East situation is sorted out ; until the cure is found for cancer ; (add your own nominations)……

He’s blatantly looking to go out on a high, I’d rate him within the top 3 worst taoiseach’s ever..

I bloody hated that part of Macbeth. Easily fooled, he was.
Mind you – it had some great lines- You egg, you !, young fry of treachery”….I may have that wrong- it’s been a while …

        1. Ben Redmond

The FG power brokers might bear these Macbeth lines in mind when maneuvering against Kenny:-

“If it were done when ’tis done, then ’twere well
It were done quickly.” – 1:7

And Kenny’s assassin could speak a soliloquy beginning:-

“Is this a dagger which I see before me,
The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.” – 2:1

That’s brilliant, Deluded, good find. I shall now and forever treasure the phrase ‘the commission of divers peccadilloes.’

      1. Deluded

        It’s a good ‘un.
(the “divers” in Nigel’s quote is the old spelling of the word diverse)

          1. Deluded

(would it not be “cf Pratchett’s…” or is it a different “Pace”? Allowed nonetheless!)

          2. Nigel

In this case, it’s supposed to mean ‘with the permission of’ or ‘with due deference to’ but checking it out, I see it’s usually used to refer to someone you’re disagreeing with, so, yes, cf would have been better.

Maybe it’s just that the sense of disgust is fresher, but I actually think Kenny is worse than either of them. I fupping hate the sight of that man.

          2. Brother Barnabas

            Yeah, of course – true.

Have a special loathing for Kenny, though. None before have been as socially divisive as him. He’s been our Thatcher. I think it’ll be in years to come that the extent of the damage done by Kenny will become apparent. I’d put him 2nd worst after Ahern.

          3. bertie blenkinsop

Yeah but at least Haughey is dead, you still have to stomach Ahern popping up at Dubs matches etc, the horrible pox.

“He’s been our Thatcher. I think it’ll be in years to come that the extent of the damage done by Kenny will become apparent.”

Ah here. Talk about silly hyperbole.

          5. Brother Barnabas

I know he’s your da (or thereabouts) so you’ve got to defend him, Kieran, but it’s not at all hyperbole. Take the protests over water…. even during the 1980s when the economy was utterly bollixed, we didn’t have unrest like that, while the same economic circumstances in Thatcher’s Britain was producing the likes of Toxteth etc. The comparative lack of unrest here was due to an element of compassion in policies of Garret Fitzgerald, especially (see, I don’t hate all FGers). Having said that, I don’t think Kenny is evil. He’s too much of an imbecile to be evil. I just think he’s a silly pants and a boo boo.

          6. Brother Barnabas

            @bertie

One of the most satisfying things I’ve ever experienced was 20 minutes of uninterrupted chanting from all sides of Croke Park when Ahern had the audacity to show his face there. He left at half time.

          7. bertie blenkinsop

Conversely, I was in Parnell Park the night sections of the crowd gave him a standing ovation just after he’d resigned.
Sickened me to the pit of my stomach.

          8. Brother Barnabas

            hear ye

it’s no big achievement to fool trusting people. any shameless liar can do it. always get found out in the end. for me, enduring image of ahern is him popping out of a kitchen cupboard in an ad for a Sunday tabloid. the fu€ker had zero class.

      2. Kieran Nice Young Chap

His speech standing up to Trump on immigration is going down really well over here in the media/on the left/amongst my friends.

But jaysus he doesn’t know when to get off the stage. He’s like the last guy at a party trying to get another chorus of Wonderwall going at 3am.

  3. Kieran Nice Young Chap

By the way – has anyone seen Trump refusing to shake hands with Merkel?

    What an unbelievably petty cretin.

    1. Brother Barnabas

By the way, Kieran, my response to your comment above got removed. I think it was because I suggested Enda is you true father. Just so know, though…I had the last word.

Fair Dues to Annie Murphy. Official Ireland (translation: Gay Byrne) and Co owe her an apology.
