Cork City parade 2017

….it must be time to put an end to the religious “floats” in the parade?? They’re not much craic! There were two in particular today that were really a buzz kill in the middle of the parade,,,

Yes, but Mother Mary is not Irish. She has nothing to do with the day.
It is going to get more and more awkward, as Ireland becomes less religious, and the national festival is for a saint. I think Arthur’s day is the only answer ;) .

Seems to me there should be no great difficulty in an increasingly secular society recognising and even celebrating important historical and cultural aspects of our history that were also religious. Arguably, given the huge importance of religion to our history and culture, it may be no harm to having at least one more-or-less positive touch-point to set against the increasingly overwhelmingly negative associations, for the good of our national mental health if nothing else. Er, apart from the binge drinking, obviously. At least it’s happy binge drinking!

        I backed a horse at ten-to-one that didn’t come until half-three.
I think I’ll stick to the greyhounds.

The thing is, you’ve got to know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away and know when to run.

I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas, please
Fold ’em, let ’em, hit me, raise it, baby, stay with me (I love it)

I once made the mistake of calculating my winnings while the game was still in progress. I should have realised that there would be greater opportunity afforded for this when the gambling session had concluded

If you’re looking for a game I hear there’s a Spanish train that runs between
Guadalquivir and old Saville that might have some action.

fook, Nigel, what deplorable depths of hell have you visited that you’ve a Chris De Burgh lyric alive in your head. If I was you, I’d beat the sh1t out of myself.

BB, I went through a phase in my very early teens and I’m not even sorry because I think it’s hilarious and I learned valuable life lessons about the appropriate juncture to render payment to water excursion operators.

Spaceman Came Travelling is a fantastic Christmas song, for what it’s worth.

            (not a lot)

Veda actually used to do a magnificent version of Spanish Train in The George on Wednesdays

Rumour has it that Patricia the Stripper is Enda Kenny’s karaoke song.

    Is that true, Kieran?
