  1. Yep

Jaysus. The team my little nephew plays for receive sponsorship from the local chipper and get to keep the tracksuit. That’s embarrassing.

different ball game altogether with adult women – binge eating, yo-yo weight gain, crash dieting etc, the girls here no know what I mean. The poor tracksuit lad doesn’t know what size the players are going to be from one week to the next. Fact.

This is outrageous, but indicative of wider discrimination and inequality. Their demands are also very modest and basic, too.

Delaney should be long gone at this stage, but of course won’t because of the mens team’s moderate success of late.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Delaney’s on his way to a bigger and better pork barrel – the IOC. Why would he give an eff?

      1. Owen

He surely can’t go to the IOC at this stage? That would be just completely ripping the urine.

  3. DarDar

They’re not asking for much. All their demands are fairly modest. I hope they get everything they’re asking for, and more.

  4. gallantman

John Delaney should be able to help there. I know during Euro 2016 himself and Emma stayed in some hotels with “at the very least working and reliable wi-fi”

  5. Sheik Yahbouti

The FAI have long been an absolute disgrace. Go all the way to the distant past of the National Team, for instance, when the availability of good Hotel Room and inexpensive prostitutes (for the FAI) were a big factor in the selection of venues for ‘international Friendlies ‘. What is it about us, as a race, that we tolerate the “pork barrel” in EVERY facet of life?

  6. missred

They can’t even keep their tracksuits? FFS, if this is what they have to deal with, no wonder the tight-fisted hoors at the FAI think they can get away with the rest. Take them to the cleaners ladies, you deserve nothing less

  7. Joe

Of course the elephant in the room is how poorly we as a nation support Irish football regardless of gender.

Delaney’s salary aside, the FAI isn’t awash with funds and relies on [REDACTED] to pay the bills for the national side’s management team.

When we spend hundreds of millions a year supporting English teams at the expense of local clubs, we can’t be surprised that Irish football hasn’t any money.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Joe, I can’t disagree with you as you speak the truth. However, I still believe that what little there is could be much better spent.

  8. Joe cool

The fai must have to save every penny to pay Delaney. Friend of mine has gone there a few times recently to fix computers. Every time he’s there there’s a new i.t. guy straight off jobs bridge, with zero knowledge of computers. The computers themselves falling apart. The penny pinching at abbottstown is unbelievable appearantly

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Joe, that’s so sad to hear. Even as a tiny nation, we can produce great footballers, but not without investment in this day and age

    2. Toe Up

I’d say that Delaney is still wining and dining at the finest restaurants though, in spite of this.

    1. RockyRoader

There cannot be any argument with those demands – shame on the FAI that they have to demand such basic considerations.

      +1

      Best of luck to them.

Btw -the FAI are still renting the use of the Aviva from the IRFU, aren’t they?

      1. Spaghetti Hoop

No, the FAI have equal control as the IRFU in Lansdowne Road so don’t ‘rent’ it for fixtures.

        1. Kieran Nice Young Chap

Cheers, Hoop. Didn’t know the new arrangements with the new stadium.

Fairly ‘brave’ of the IRFU to get into a financial bed with the FAI!

  9. MoyestWithExcitement

Delaney’s salary is more than the combined salaries of the heads of the Spanish and Italian FAs. It’s more than the combined prize money of the FAI Cup winners and league champions. AND he had to be pressured into taking a roughly 25% pay cut iirc. AND he’s giving himself a raise soon. But there’s no money for a tracksuit each for the women. Neoliberalism and right wing thinking in a microcosm.

Was just going to say it would be interesting to hear from Frilly on this, but then saw that she sent it in :)

        Too quiet?

Who knows, but maybe she’s working on something explosive for her frill-bits.

I genuinely love how much they infuriate everyone.

  11. Junkface

Jesus! Ireland treats its women like poo again! It made international news though, so now the Gov’t will get onto the FAI to treat the ladies national team better than the under 10’s local Sunday league boys team.

    Another milestone for Ireland!
