  1. Yeah, Ok

    Speaking as a cyclist…

    1. This isn’t a mandatory cycle lane
    2. He’s probably putting ads in the bus stop behind so hasn’t got much option but to stop there

There are more worthwhile bike lane battles to be fought than this.

Yup. I generally don’t mind people parked up on cycle lanes. What I do mind is moving vehicles pulling into cycle lanes. Now that’s properly dangerous.

So how am I expected to park there if I cannot pull in and pull out. Do you understand the rules of physical motion love

I agree, happens to me nearly once a week; some fupper swerving in, without looking or indicating, to go around another car turning right, it’s lethal. It’s not quite as infuriating as the ones who try to go around someone turning right but there’s not enough room so they literally just swerve left, block the cycle lane and then stop. Achieves nothing, is highly dangerous AND prevents anyone from getting past.

Ah the auld broken white line cycle lane, Also known as the completely irrelevant cycle lane as it allows drives to encroach into it and to park on it making in entirely useless, It’s basically just paint on the road,

It’s high time for The Broadsheet Book of Unspecified Bike Lane Battles.

      or maybe;

Mapping the The Lycra War: A Decade of Bike Lane Battles of Ireland through maps from 2007-2017

      1. Graham F

You wanna see me in lycra love. Not in the first flushes no more but still look bloody good. I see the looks I get.

    1. Increasing Displacement

      +1 but…My question is…

      Why were they swerving?
Would they not have noticed the van well in advance had they been paying attention?

      1. ZeligIsJaded

Cycling is about forward momentum ya see.

If you are suggesting that cyclists stop, indicate and move out in the same way that a car does, then you misunderstand cycling completely.

Cyclists ‘swerve’ between lanes because to move across any other way would require so much stopping as to make the cycle unbearable.

With an early signal, this shouldn’t cause much trouble for traffic, but the fact remains that cyclists being pushed into the same lane as a car or a bus or a truck is not a good idea.

So lets all have a hurrah for segregated traffic lanes.

What’s that smell like, then? I’m thinking vom with a hint of poos. A soupcon de caca, as it were.

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

Anyone who uses ‘soupcon’ with such panache and skill is clearly a superior being.

And yes, it does smell like that, with just a garnish of smugness, served with a jus of sardonic humour.

(That bit came out in the Masterchef narrator lady’s voice, for those who are interested)

Oh stop. Or I’ll be off to buy it in a min.

And my nearest m&s is aaaaaaages away.

  2. Fact Checker

Isn’t it legal to park in such circumstances for 30 minutes while actively loading and unloading?

It may be parked too close to the bus stop behind though.

  3. Graham F

I park there all the bloody time and isn’t one person on a bloody pushcycle going to tell me one thing. Pushcycles are basically bloody toys for children and should never be used on a public highway. If you are a cycler you need to grow the heck up.

    1. Goodnight Ireland

That road is relatively narrow road for the amount of traffic on it (cyclists and cars). If you park regularly there you would be what motorists general term as an arsehole.

    2. edalicious

You sound very stressed. Probably all that time spent sat in traffic. It’s not good for the aul’ blood pressure.

    3. Zuppy International

      Graham F

People – including those on pushbikes – have a natural, lawful, and in-alienable right to travel the public highway without impediment or interruption. Motor vehicles, on the other hand, can only travel the public highway under license.

Your priorities are upside down. Take a good long hard look at yourself. You might live longer.

  4. Turgenev

Put the car tax on fuel.

Make cycle lanes separated, bollarded and protected.

Prosecute drivers who park in them.

There is never “no other option but to park in this place where you endanger others”. Sometimes it costs a euro coin or two. Is my life worth less to you?

    1. wearnicehats

I agree – It’s an absolute disgrace – there’s barely enough room for a cyclist to get between that van and the wall now.
