Minister for Health Simon Harris TD with a model of St Vincent’s University Hospital
Young Simon has hit a home run
His work on the hospital’s done
And just for a wheeze
He’s handing the keys
To the door of the place to a nun.

‘What is this, a hospital for ants?’
‘No. Nuns. It’s a hospital for nuns. It’s their hospital now.’
:D
Things I’d rather see the hospital handed over to instead of nuns:
1. Ants.
2. Giant Shipworms.
Giant shipworms…
*shudder*
Actually…
Simon Harris
*shudder*
Imagine licking THAT!
Every evening Simon Harris goes home, tilts sideways and his true form slides out. He’s really a nun.

“Savita Memorial Hospital” please.
Nonsense.
I do not think the word “nonsense” means what you think it means.
Inconceivable!
Anybody want a peanut?
Makes sense to me, Topsy. Very apposite.
Any chance of a constitutional challenge to this? Is the state allowed to endow a religion. Can we have a separation of church and state and of dogma and personal choice.
Take the challenge instead of banging on about it here.
Topsy ,are you offering to underwrite the legal cost or are you also banging off ?
We don’t have a constitutional separation of church and state
Sign this petition, it can’t hurt….

Geez, you think Ireland has changed, then this s$%Y$^&te happens. Why would the State give it away? It is owned by the tax payers.
Giving a hospital to freaks who have a narrow view of what life is about, why?
I’m sure you have a few freakish behaviours yourself. Enlighten us all.
why don’t the Nuns buy it off the State?
Nuns don’t give money. They get given money… and property… and hospitals… and profits on stolen babies
I think you have deep rooted childhood issues.
I have friends who were raped and abused by religious orders. The rapists and abusers were protected.
Do you believe a teenage virgin gave birth to a child who was both himself and his da?
Daisy. I notice that you have close affiliations with everyone & every issue that irks you. A bit of a convenient bluffer I expect.
It’s an explicit admission by the State it’s employing unqualified administrators with poor attitude. System has little to do with it, it’s not sentient, it’s gamed, used and abused by some within it.
I believe it’s called ‘Pooing on your own door step’. Thanks folks! NOT.
Sorry, should have finished with ‘Amen’ and cross myself.
meant to say – State does not trust people it employs TO RUN A HOSPITAL.
Ah, the ranting morning :-) Steam off – talk later. LOL.
Have a nice cup of tea/coffee/ovaltine and look at some pictures of sleeping puppies. It helps, I promise.
It’s like some parallel universe.
What do we want ?
Laïcité !
When do we want it ?
NOW
My reading of your chant was slowed down by wondering how you got the umlaut and fada on your laicite.
Thereby ruining the rhythm.
my phone is a salope
D’accord.
it’s embarassing how much power the church STILL has over the country. it’s politicians who keep them goin, coz they know if they support them they get the holy joe vote.
No embarrassing at all.
Actually, it’s incredibly embarrassing.
On the contrary, I’m not in the least embarrassed.
You should be.
You’re funny.
Topsy the friendly garden troll.
Leave aside the deeply dodgy history of this verminous gaggle of harridans. Why do we compulsorily purchase land for roads? I mean why not just build the road and gift it to the farmers who own the land and they can manage it? Why does that logic not apply to something far more important?
It’s completely and utterly indefensible. There’s no explanation for it. We’re building a state of the art hospital and we’re gifting it to a private body for no reason whatsoever. It’s disgusting.
But surely there is a reason, a party line like? I cannot fathom it at all, but surely they have some rationale they’re pushing?
I’m not defending, just absolutely fascinated, it seems so overtly stupid it’s hard to believe
+1
its hard to believe that the Gov’t thought we’d be fine with this. After every horror the Catholic church has commited on the innocent people of Ireland.
We should really be confiscating church land and buildings by force for reparations to victims.
Privatisation. The gov believe the state should not own it (despite paying all construction and running costs) as they believe in privatisation of health care, their entire healthcare policy is based on this thnking. I guess the outcry if they handed it to “Redacted hospitals ltd” would be even greater than handing it to the nuns.
Donal, I think you have it there. The good Nuns have shown themselves to be unparalleled extractors of fees for health care that should have been provided free of charge under PRSI and other social schemes. They can safely be left to devise ever more ingenious methods of removing costs from “the public purse”. Can someone explain to me – if the costs of all the citizens’ needs for services are to be met by the citizens themselves – for what s “the public purse”? It appears now to exist solely to maintain our policians and Civil service in the luxury to which they have become accustomed.
I’m with you LW, It’s totally baffling but in the all the coverage there hasn’t been a single word of why they are doing this that I can find.
Could they have threatened to withhold cooperation from their other hospitals on site if the state had CPO’d the land / retain operational control of the hospital?
I have no idea, possibly but surely they are in no position to do anything like that given their history.
They’re doing this because SHUT UP.
hahahaha, that’s literally what it seems to amount to
I’ve no problem with it at all. Ease up, your frothing from the mouth.
Then you’re in no position to ever counsel fiscal responsibility or the national interest. It’s neither economically sensible or in the national interest to gift state assets, gratis, to private institutions with a history of child abuse, abuse of women, and not paying their debts.
You’re the swivel-eyed, irrational one here, pet.
Don’t feed the troll.
Topsy – you are not a good troll.
It’s only women’s health and welfare. It’s not like it’s anything important.
Exactly ahjayzis.
It boggles my mind that we would pump £3oom into ‘national’ infrastructure and then hand sole ownership of it to a non-state body.
+1
boils down to that
This photo chills my soul.
And it’s already quite cold.
Is there a reason you’re following Topsy around like an echo?
Cant get my head around it.
Blood boiling stuff…
I just hope the babies are electronically tagged as soon as they’re born. You wouldn’t want the nuns slipping back into their baby stealing & trafficking ways.
I know I keep mentioning this but the scale of it is extraordinary:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2049647/BBC-documentary-exposes-50-year-scandal-baby-trafficking-Catholic-church-Spain.html
(sorry for the Daily Hate Mail link but it’s an amalgam of multiple BBC reports.)
Appalling. In fairness they were never going to think the building should be renamed as “The Ann Lovett Savita Halappanavar Memorial Centre for Political Change” but the last thing we want is nuns and their corporate entity they masquerade as ANYWAY near hospitals, schools, or anywhere were normal people might be vulnerable to their money-grubbing ways.
