Johnny Keenan (he’s on the telly!) writes:

A brief ceremony to honour the life of Dara Quigley, the music of The Stone Roses, and to celebrate the resurrection of 468,421 non-religious people in the Republic of Ireland (Census 2016)…

Spontaneity gives the energy to fuel creativity. Usually it passes me by and then it’s procrastination. Recently I’ve decided to carpe diem. I’m not really bothered what people think at this stage. As long as I try to do something positive I can say I made an effort. It’s really nice to get some support though from Clampers and Brother Barnabas. The high echelon of Broadsheet.

      Hey Spaghetti!

According to the census of 2016. 468,421 citizens ticked the box to say they were non-religious.

I wanted to highlight this fact with a celebration of a Dance On.

Oh I know that, Johnny, good lad. And quite a number it is.
But spelling it so incorrectly does not help the cause.

I am, and always have been, a huge fan of:
    Jump to the left, shimmy-clap
    Jump to the right, shimmy-clap
Sometimes the jumps get a bit wobbly due to too much booze but I cunningly incorporate that into the dance so absolutely nobody notices.

I dance from the knees up, with the occasional double handclap, kinda like George Michael God rest him.

We may have been separated at birth, andy – I have almost the very same dance: known affectionately around my parts as the Brother Bop. Only difference is mine has evolved to incorporate a third, in-the-middle stage in which I fix a slightly-demented-looking stare at the prettiest lady in the room and give a fairly elaborate pelvic thrust with my tongue protruding ever so slightly out of the left side of my mouth. It goes down well at weddings, especially.
