Good oul Nuns. Threats when they and Senator Mullen don’t get their way. Why would we expect anything else.

      1. newsjustin

That’s what I was thinking. 75,000+ people signed a petition saying that they wanted the Religious Sisters of Charity to have no role in the new National Maternity Hospital. So it looks like they may get their wish.

      2. Nigel

Yeah, why aren’t people happy that the nuns have been put in a position to hold the NMH hostage? Weird.

    1. Mickey Twopints

Has anyone yet seen the full-page advert calling on the government to halt this madness? It was crowd-funded on uplift.ie by Denise Kiernan and team.

      1. newsjustin

It’s probably undergoing a re-write now that no one is sure whether we want the Sisters involved or not.

  2. martco

excellent. now we get to see the whites of their secretive eyes, the plan is getting exposed & their control is being threatened. it’s all about the power, ability to interfere and shape outcomes, the famous ethos.. the money is irrelevant. fantastical I know but I wish we could go one further now and cpo/confiscate the land and continue to build this excellent facility. its not like they don’t owe.

    1. newsjustin

Looks like the petition and posturing in the Dail is paying off. People may well get what they want – no NMH at St Vincents. That’ll teach those nuns.

      1. Sheik Yahbouti

Keep missing the point, Dear friend, about just how ‘Charitable ‘ the Sisters of Charity really are, and how civic minded.

        1. jusayinlike

The hospital is badly needed, it’s the Catholic oversight that’s the issue Justin..

          1. Sheik Yahbouti

He knows that – he and his pal are just being disingenuous. The love the “belt of the Crozier” and whatever the Nun equivalent might be.

          2. newsjustin

It’s amusing to see people who have been campaigning against the Sister’s of Charity having anything to do with the NMH now squirming and complaining that the Sister’s are hinting they might not be involved.

            Make up your minds people!

          3. veritas

as one of those that objected I am not squirming at any pullout by the nuns.I welcome it and I will support them if they want to pull out anywhere else,we don’t need them, parasites.

          4. bisted

+1 veritas…and while they are at could we have the words back that they have hijacked…starting with ethos…I think the more appropriate word would be avarice…

  3. G.R.I.T.S.

    Tell us this

    The Nuns own the land
They’re not short of a bob
Why the phuqq don’t they built a Maternity Hospital themselves

I didn’t see them give away Mt Carmel

    1. realPolithicks

“Why the phuqq don’t they built a Maternity Hospital themselves”

Why would they when the moronic irish government is prepared to give them one for free?

  4. Lilly

CPO please. If the nuns were the slightest bit charitable, they would acknowledge the dire need for a new hospital, and instead of trying to exploit this need, they would donate the land to the State. It’s as simple as that really; they know it and we know it.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Exactly, Lilly, it’s as simple as that – IF there was any reality to their ‘charity ‘ and concern for “the sick poor” they were founded to minister to.

      1. newsjustin

They’re offering a site for the NMH at zero cost to the state. That’s pretty charitable.

        1. Lilly

If you think ownership of a €300 million asset amounts to zero cost, maths is not your strong suit.

        2. realPolithicks

Give it up justin, you’re not going to convince anyone with your nonsensical arguments.

          1. newsjustin

I’m not trying to convince anyone. I agree with those who say that the NMH should be 100% state owned.

I’m a realist though. I understand that you can’t have it both ways – getting your hate on for the mean old nuns while at the same time mooching a free site off them and expecting them to fall over themselves to give it away.

          2. Lilly

Actually Newsjustin, it’s not a free site as you put it. It is approximately equal in value to the amount they owe the State in unpaid redress. If you want realism, there you have it. High time the gloves came off.

    1. scottser

Ah now, they weren’t that good of a band to amass huge assets. How much do you think ‘this corrosion’ actually made?

  5. Ron

It’s only 2005 that a Priest and Nun who were members of the board of Dublin’s Mater Hospital were key to the decision to temp stop trials of a drug for lung cancer patients. They objected because female patients who could get pregnant would have to take contraceptives under the treatment. Shame on this Government. It’s like they are not even trying to hide their contempt for citizens anymore.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Ron, they’ve made no attempt for years. However, things are changing – the suckers have become annoyed – therefore slight differences in presentation are emerging. Let’s make those changes real, instead of just cosmetic, let’s actually hold Government to account – they are still mentally stuck in the 1950’s, despite their free iPads.

      1. jusayinlike

This hospital will be a very lucrative exercise for the nuns also, selling body parts and still born babies, to big pharma, and obviously administration of vaccines and inoculations for the poor unsuspecting patients, this is a prosperous industry for the Catholic Church perfected over decades..

        1. Sheik Yahbouti

Justin, my old man, and his eight brothers and sisters, were sent to “the Bird’s Nest” in Dun Laoghaire after the death of their mother. Look it up sometime, makes great reading. Bear in mind that their father paid for them, and visited them, which I hope saved them from the worst. Think of the poor little hoors who had nobody.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Jesus actually WOULD weep, if he was around and saw what had been done in HIS name :-( a decent skin with a benign philosophy.)

  6. Lilly

The irony is all their power mongering and land grabbing is not exactly swelling their numbers. More people might be encouraged to join if they were seen to live up to the Christian ideal. Too late for that now I suppose.

  7. rotide

Came here to [s]gloat about calling it[/s] see what reaction there was to the citizens assembly vote. Bodger having a nap?

I think EVERYBODY should use text formatting.
Maybe together we could humiliate those who haven’t even the decency to use capital letters, commas and full stops, and shame them into being coherent.

I’m drunk and I feel like I’m on a roll recently.
Admittedly I’m drunk and I tend to repeat myself, but I think I’m on a roll.

But I was wondering, does anybody ever click on my name and listen to the music I sneakily post?
Nobody ever complains about it, so I got that going for me.
            Nobody says thank-you either.

But I do do that. Click me name. Find out.
I’m beginning to wonder why I bother, but I will take requests. (Make them difficult or I won’t be bothered.)

  8. Kieran Nice Young Chap

Meanwhile gay people are being exterminated systematically in Chechnya and there’s no media coverage.

    It’s horrific.

    1. jusayinlike

      That’s awful alright Kieran..

Incidentally those are the camps KBR built after they slapped up the FEMA concentration camps for the Obama/Clinton administration..

    2. Sheik Yahbouti

Get Nuns Inc onto it Kieran, then there’ll be plenty of coverage. ….. oh, wait……..

      1. Kieran Nice Young Chap

Sure. I’m sure you’re making a valid point about the extermination of gay people.

        1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

          Calm down Kieran.
You’re persecuted by proxy, because you have a keyboard.
You need adversaries, so you create them or invoke them.

          Do something positive instead.
          That would be better.

          1. Nigel

He could always condescend like a callous self-absorbed willy to someone who’s obviously upset about something fairly serious. That’s positive.

    3. f_lawless

      @Kieran NYC
“gay people are being exterminated systematically in Chechnya”
I think you’re misinformed. If you actually take the time to investigate the source of the report it comes from an article by a journalist for the Russian media outlet “Novaya Gazeta”. The original article made claims of more than a hundred detained with reportedly 3 being killed, publishing names of GayRussia.com activists as their sources. Western media outlets then jumped all over this story and embellished it with talk of “concentration camps” “systematic killing” etc. It’s more fodder for the anti-Russian narrative – who cares if it’s true or not.
I’ve no doubt Russia and more so Chechya are highly hostile places to be if you are gay but spreading fake stories doesnt help. As Ukrainian journalist Maxim Eristavi, who is out as gay, says “Creating more misinformation can damage and endanger people on the ground and discredit those who are trying to bring more attention to the issue.”

Now you have the gay Russian activist sources who were quoted in the original article, suing Novaya Gazeta for making false statements – that they never said gays in Chechnya were being rounded up, tortured, killed.
One of those activists is Russiain Nikolay Alexeyev(also a lawyer and journalist). Openly gay, he won the first ever case at the European Court of Human Rights on LGBT human rights violations in Russia.
      https://www.sott.net/article/348712-Fake-news-purveyors-busted-There-are-no-gay-gulags-in-Chechnya
I took the time to look up his Facebook page.
Here’s some quotes(some translated from Russian)
“there are no proven facts about gays being procecuted in Chechnya. Not a single one. If you believe one journalist its up to you…This journalist is a professional manipulator on Chechnya for many years”
“The story of the evacuation of Chechen gays will be the most epic financial scam in LGBT history of Russia.”
“Denied the requests of several Western media outlets for interviews on the fake Chechen story. In any case they will continue to lie and take all the words out of context”

        1. f_lawless

          @Kieran NYC
I’m not trying to denigrate the hostile conditions LGBT people surely must be living under in Russia and worse in Chechnya, but again the point I wanted to make, as gay Ukrainian journalist Maxim Eristavi says, “Creating more misinformation can damage and endanger people on the ground and discredit those who are trying to bring more attention to the issue.”

And in other news: millennial Angst in Irish Times as snowflakes object to amending expensive sweaters to say Amend and not Repeal.

    1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

I was always interested to know, when people said ‘repeal’, what they wanted to replace it with.
It’s another can of worms, as evidenced by the plethora of choices offered by the assembly.

      1. Sheik Yahbouti

Nothing, absolutely nothing. The offending article should just be removed from our Constitution.

        1. Andyourpointiswhatexactly?

Ok. But then what abortion legislation would be introduced? World you trust the legislature?

          1. newsjustin

You’ll have the same TDs who tried to convince us that public water needed to be enshrined in the Constitution because you can’t trust politicians not to sell it off now try to explain why allowing the Oireachtas to legislate for abortion would be perfect and entirely sensible.

    1. newsjustin

On my last visit to St Vincents I did see a creepy albino monk lurking around.

It all makes perfect sense now!

  10. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

    Today is a good day.

    And we’re getting a referendum.

    I couldn’t help thinking…
    – When the Citizens’ Assembly vote in such a way, (87% v 13%) for change, isn’t it a foregone conclusion?

So yeah, it’s a good day today.
    (And we’re getting a referendum.)

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

      PS.
      Serious question…
How much does a referendum cost us, as a country?
(A referendum to restore basic human rights to ourselves, let’s NEVER forget that.)

How much does that cost us?
      – We should burn these heathens who don’t</strike won’t understand science, at the stake.

  11. Clampers Outside

“Drunken mothers…” story in The Times

No blamin’ the “patriarchy” for that carry on.
Thank fupp for research that’s independent of moronic claptrap by advocacy groups and deluded idealogues…. phew!

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

OK, I’ll bite :-D. Some women screw up, badly. Therefore all women (and particularly feminists) are crap. Would that just about cover it? Oh, BTW they got pregnant all by their lonesome.

        1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

I’m going to order a pizza.
It’s the same thing as expressing your belief online and I’m nether anti or pro pineapple.
I think the more toppings the better, so F anyone who tries to limit my choice, or anyone elses’.

Wee on your own pizza… Stop robbing slices of mine..

          1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

            Very funny. algorithm…
I didn’t say ‘wee’. Not since I was 10yrs old.
I said a word that begins with a ‘P; and rhymes with this.

You can try to ruin my jokes all you like…
            You should just stop.

You’re in the wrong league. I’m drunk, on drugs, awake for over 30 or 40 hours on the trot so far.
            You have no excuse.

            I shouldn’t be winning, but I am.
            Loosen up.

You can’t be the radical force you want to be, that you deserve to be, if you can’t say PIDDLE.
            Take your pick…

  12. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

On a different note entirely, anyone know whatever happened to the entirely wonderful and in no way dodgy blogger called Bock The Robber?

I haven’t heard anything about him recently. Am I just lucky or did he cop on?
All I can find is this’ http://markhumphrys.com/bock.html

    I know… I’m lucky..
I owe you this Bock, since 4yrs or more ago. Swivel on it.

    1. Mickey Twopints

BTR didn’t tolerate your verbal diarrhea on the blogsite that he funds ouf of his own pocket? That’s despicable behaviour.

  13. sǝɯǝɯʇɐɹǝpuǝq

    I’m starting to sober up.

(Only messing. I wouldn’t be here if I was sober, and even if I was here sober I’d pretend I was drunk, and you would never know…
    You would never know.)

Why is the off-licence not open? It’s nearly 10:30am.

    Oh yeah, I forgot… Sunday….
You have to be sober going to Mass.

Don’t mind me. I haven’t been in a church since I was excommunicated, by meself.

  14. sǝɯǝɯʇɐɹǝpuǝq

Is it okay if I just play with meself on this thread?
C’mon, it’s Sunday. Nobody cares about what other people cared about yesterday.
I’ve been very good recently… I only say nice things and I try to help otrhers to articulate thmeselves porprely, I haven’t slagged anyone in ages and I try to create harmony.
    Gimme a break, please…

Let me talk to myself here for a little bit.
You don’t have to read it. I have two easily recognisable avatars. They are yellow.

Hang on a minute….I’m not sober at all…
    – Did you ever get so drunk that you thought you were sober?
    – Did you ever get so sober that you thought you were drunk?

    It’s still Sunday, isn’t it?
    We’ll just have to wait.

Aren’t you glad you don’t know me personally?

Hold on… I’m getting a call on my other identity.

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐɹǝpuǝq

      Apparently hey are NOT yellow.
They are yellow and purple and belong to Nintendo.
I should get two new ones.

Donald Trump is the ‘real-life’ Wario, not me.

But the off-licence opens in about a half an hour, so I got that going for me.

      1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐɹǝpuǝq

I have to go away and be artistic.
My partner-in-crime is coming. I have to put the kettle on and cake a nice bake before he gets here.

If you have any questions You’re asking the right person to get the wrong answer.

        Artistic.
        (just shecking my chell-specker…making chure…)
