This evening.
National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin 2
National Maternity Hospital board members, including newly-shorn acting chairman Nicholas Kearns (top right) and Dr Peter Boylan (above), arrive for a meeting to discuss the call by Mr Kearns and Master of Holles Street Rhona Mahony for the removal of Dr Boylan from the board following his criticism of the proposed agreement to hand over the ownership of the hospital to the Sisters of Charity.
More as we get it.

Update:
Tonight.
Rhona Mahony, Master of Holles Street Maternity and Nicholas Kearns tell media that a majority of the Board have re-endorsed last November’s ‘agreement’ with St. Vincent’s Hospital for the building of the new national maternity hospital on its campus.

Looks like neither the 8th Amendment to the constitution, nor the nuns in charge of St Vincent’s, prevent medics from terminating a pregnancy that directly threatens the life of an expectant mother.
Stand down Abortion Huggers. Your outrage is out of date and no longer required.
What’s your point? The real outrage here is that a hospital which will probably end up costing the taxpayers 500 million or more is going to be handed over to a religious order.
Zuppy I like you, it’s great that you’re around now and again to vent your dogma.
Why?
Because it seems you have the ability to unite all sorts of people who contribute regularly to posts here on BS be they left/right/tory/socialist/shinner/man/woman/child usually disagreeing and griping to each other but when you show up it shows many of us that certain things can be in common.

I think you’ll find the dogma comes from Broadsheet editorial agenda…
https://www.broadsheet.ie/2017/04/26/deal-leaves-doors-open-for-church-control/
“Secondly, the scope of the reserved powers are necessarily limited by the objects of the Hospital Company as defined in Clause 2 of the Agreement, which talks about providing
‘a range of health services in the community as heretofore’.
The words ‘as heretofore’ could potentially be relied on in the future to argue that new health services – possibly abortion, if legal, or new methods of assisted reproduction – fall outside the purposes of the hospital.”
that’s legal opinion from a qualified contributor. you’re just a religious nutter.
This another one of your legal zingers Zuppy? Like when you tried to argue amendments to the constitution were unconstitutional?
There has been little doubt that under the constitution, where the life of the mother was at immediate risk an abortion could be performed since the X Case, however, it was only after Savita Halappanavar that clear legislation was brought in to provide guidelines. But it is restricted to where the death of the mother is inevitable and a whole panel of doctors agree.
As you are well aware, amendment of the 8th goes much further to include FFA (you know like Mildred’s example where you chose to be an utter impacted fecal scraping). So as with your amendments to the constitution being unconstitutional effluvia, this is another spunk-splurge of nonsense. IF the 8th is amended, it is likely to also include abortion for FFA. As LCD points out this isn’t legislated for or performed “heretofore” and could therefore present a reason to not be performed at the new hospital.
Desperately spinning for the Baby Murder Machine… The dogma is strong in this one.
Turns out I know a board member!
I’m part of the inner cabal, folks.
Be very afraid.
Just to clarify, the lad with the camera isn’t a board member.
Oh right. As you were.
Most people who post here are relatively well heeled, well connected, educated, middle class worker bees, I’d say. This notion that we’re all struggling factory workers is fanciful. It doesn’t mean, however, that we feel any less powerless in the face of the insidious vested interests sucking the country dry.

Small pursed lip. Smug internal grin. Priestly manner.
Ugh.
Isn’t it gratifying that most people, given time, get the faces they deserve. Think Samuel Beckett nobility versus Bertie Ahern I-won-it-on the-gigis. It’s all in the face.

Raold Dahl was right!
This is a farce.
What’s needed now is His Grace The Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin to come off the bench and take up his role as Chair of this board. Knock a few heads together.
…Bottler?
A hospital paid for by the taxpayer, handed over to the religious order that ran magdalene launderies
Who runs Ireland……Opus Dei or the Knights of Columbanus.
There needs to be published by the Charity Regulator a register of declared interests where any group
claims charitable status and is in particular has anything to do with the Irish Catholic Church.
wait til you see the turns out for the Catholic world meeting of families. They you’ll see who is in charge!
…sadly, I have to agree with this…despite the revelations and scandals that the catholic church have been involved in, the latest census has shown that 78% of the population still profess as catholic. It is ironic that the most despicable crimes perpetrated by religious groups have been against the family…
