Hook Head,, County Wexford: the world’s oldest-working lighthouse.

Free tomorrow?

Like lighthouses?

Ann Power writes:

A free fun filled festival set to shine a light on all things maritime will get underway at the world’s oldest-working Lighthouse on the Hook Peninsula, County Wexford over the May bank holiday weekend.

An action packed weekend of festivities will get underway from tomorrow (Saturday, April 29th ) from 11am.

Enroll at the new Pirate School headed up by none other than Captain Hook; take an opportunity to learn first hand about safety at sea from members of the Irish Coast Guard and RNLI.

Visitors will also have the chance to step back in time with the re-enactors from Claoimh who will demonstrate life and battles from the medieval past at a time when the 800 year old Hook Lighthouse was built…

he certainly has had a significant fall to the right, since the days that he was weeping on air at Obama’s 1st inauguration.
His hated of tolerance is seeping through every broadcast now.

I find him hideous to listen to. Persistently misinformed, and when he has bothered to research, he allows his bias to undercut the conversation, under the guise of ‘playing the devil’s advocate’.

          I’d rather listen to LJG.

          +1

I listened to him recently on that chat show with Brendan O’Connor on Rte..Cutting Edge or something.

He was sh*tting on about people who don’t work, about the waste of tax money going to them..then shortly afterwards mentioned there’ll be less and less jobs due to technology. He didn’t seem to connect the dots there.

He also kept on about Pamela Anderson. The man seemed a bit pervy to be honest.

They’re kinda scrapping the barrel with that show having Vogue Williams on too.

Just a paid for reactionary empty venomous shill.
A person for whom the word windbaggery must have been invented. And that’s his good side.

He defended United Airlines in their treatment of the “belligerent” passenger some weeks ago… I laughed as I imagined some poor unfortunate air steward approaching George in his seat to tell him he was specially selected to GTFO their airplane.

I wonder if the lighthouse is keeping an eye out for immigrants and cyclists, you know, the lads George blames for everything.

Damn immigrant cyclists, coming over here, clogging up our roads, catching their wheels in our luas lines!

When you’re done pirating around, pay a visit to Loftus House. Anyway, great part o’ the world Hook Head – camper-vanned it and fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing on rocks ;)

Thanks Hoop, and Peter too, will be checking it out when I’m down that way next month.

Loftus Hall is brilliant. The tour guide we had hilariously played everything for maximum cheese. Granted, the 5 year old had nightmares for a few weeks afterwards but otherwise it was great family fun.

Yeah that tour of Loftus Hall is scary. I genuinely felt unease especially in the bedroom – really cold – no lights
