This afternoon.

In the Dáil.

During Leaders’ Questions.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin raised the National Maternity Hospital with Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

From their exchange:

Micheál Martin:Can you confirm that that hospital group [St Vincent’s Hospital Group] and the Sisters of Charity will not have a majority on the board? And, above all, will you ensure that the State, the taxpayer, will own this hospital and will have its investment reflected in it? As a bottom line, given the investment it is taking?”

Enda Kenny: “Yes, I can, I can confirm that there will be complete clinical independence. I can confirm that the Sisters of Charity will not have majority of the board and, in relation of ownership, this is a matter that requires some, some consideration…”

No there’s nothing to be considered. You’re not handing 300,000,000 to them apes

for me this reads as the pair of them attempting to inject language here to normalise the situation…so going off this it seems already acceptable that RCC have places on the board and so forth.

I think there’s nothing complex about this at all, it’s very simple. if the state wants to spend €300m (or whatever the actual number is…betcha that’s nowhere close) of the taxpayers money building this it must own the thing lock stock and barrel with no RCC involvement. buy the land or confiscate it or build somewhere else. full stop.

Great, another example of this state handing over it’s children to the child abusers..

Fair enough. I have now given in due consideration. The Nuns (or any other corporation/conglomerate) can eff off if they think they’re getting yet another tax payer funded major asset, free gratis and for nothing.
