During daylight savings the UK is in British Summer Time (BST) and Ireland is in Irish Standard Time (IST).

Technically it is a different time zone, they would be on British Summer Time (BST) in the North, whereas we use Irish Summer Time (IST) down South. They just so happen to have the same offset from GMT and both use the same dates for daylight savings time changeover.

But to be really pedantic, we do both use the same timezone during the winter i.e. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)

    Correct above ^

On a side note, a London-based IT guy of a UK company I once worked for was chatting on the phone during a fix and thought Ireland was one hour ahead because we used the Euro.

    No wonder they voted out.

      Jesus…

An English guy I met last week (who currently does work for us) was ranting about about how great Brexit is and how they’d freed themselves from European rule and would be able to control their own emmigration etc. Hardcore pro Brexit. An intelligent guy otherwise I would say, very good at what he does.

Didn’t have the heart to tell him we were looking at new vendors on the continent because of Brexit…

Yes I stand corrected, Irish Standard Time which we only use in summertime, I wonder what f**kwit came up with that.

To be fare its not just the summer. IST is around 7 months GMT is around 5 months so GMT is the exception IST is the norm.

Would be a curious challenge to find an issue or discussion that doesn’t have a GAA dimension to it somewhere at some level
