See you in 2 years for the inevitable reshuffle.
Exactly, if someone assigned to a post last year has been moved, then they are just not up to the job, regardless of the assignment. Their get out of jail card is that they were assigned to the role, rather than wanted the role. Are there any private sector companies that operates like this?
Also, whats with the Super Junior stuff?
Surely enterprise, innovation should be linked with skills and education, or employment and social protection?
Anyone know what the difference in wages is between Junior Minister and Super Junior Minister? My guess is its the same wage as she was getting as minister, i.e. demotion but without a drop in wages. Also will she have a series of staff looking to escape in the coming months just like in her last role.
According to this: http://www.oireachtas.ie/parliament/tdssenators/salariesallowances/salaries/
Role Salary Additional Allowance from Dept TOTAL
Minister €89,965 €71,486 €161,451
Minister of State €89,965 €34,474 €124,439
Minister of State(a) €89,965 €16,288 €106,253
(a) Payable to not more than two specified Ministers of State who regularly attend Government meetings.
Not too many women in this progressives cabinet.
@ Alison. Isn’t O’ Connor a wonderful example of how a woman can contribute. lol.
not too many women in the Dáil.
Who cares?
Strangely, a lot of people who are interested in probity and good governance might care. Right is right, and taking the urine is just that. If more people ‘cared’ there would be less opportunity for this wastage of public funds. These lousers rely on the “who cares” attitude.
Super-Junior = High Infants.
I mean seriously.
Like when Homer Simpson made himself Junior Vice President of his own company.
Super-Junior? Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
Mary Mitchell-O’Connor, though. Jesus wept.
It’s a title she thought she’d never see when she stopped being a primary school principal…
MMOC: sniff, but I still want to sit at the big table, cus I am important!
LV: Ok, Mary I’ll give you a makey up role.
MMOC Thanks teach…I mean Taoiseach!
Lol
Kudos on the headline.
Coveney didn’t get Tanaiste??….. let the blood letting commence
He got Deputy FG leader, which is a lesser role than Tánaiste. Maybe he’s opted to wait in the wings for something better. Or maybe he’s just no good.
He told leo he wanted Tanaiste, leo chose not to give it to him.. leo’s days are numbered..
I agree Dav, I think it will be a very short term of office for him and this cabinet.
#rat4reg…the tax evader.
Ansbacher.
Shouldn’t the Taoiseach lead the Brexit brief? That seems odd to me.
Touch of dev and Micky Collins about it
If it goes wrong it’s always handy to have someone to blame, and very handy indeed if that person is your biggest rival. Also if it works out you can take the credit because you are in charge… win win win.
… and that is why I am not a politician…
Ha. Makes sense.
Theresa makes Simon look like Madonna.
Madonna’s a Conehead?
She has to be!
and collectively The Lobby for Emigration of Youth
Ireland’s unemployment rate is the fastest dropping in Europe. Youth unemployment has dropped from a crisis high of 31% to under 12% in the last 6 years.
Love the generation emigration stories but sure who cares about statistics.
Keep the recovery going :)
Can’t argue with the fact that 240000 IRISH people emigrated between 2010 and 2015. How would that affect your statistical take?
You would also need to account for the numbers of immigrants.
How many of those emigrants left and subsequently returned? How many people from other countries immigrated during that period
(hint: the answer to both is ‘many’)
Have a look at the cso census statistics on employment which were released today. Huge unemployment problem persists in many parts of Ireland.
Agreed. That’s why we need to keep the recovery going
100000 IRISH people returned home between 2010 and 2015. How does that affect your statistical take?
…and another 235000 NON-IRISH immigrated here between 2010 and 2015.
http://emn.ie/emn/statistics
Statistics are a b|tch, alright…
Yeah, hooray for all those degree holders who managed to get zero hours contracts jobs standing behind a till! The raw numbers say everything is fine so you can all shut up slagging off The Benevolent Leader.
I hate debating ye moyest coz you argue black is white most of the time. But I enjoy proving you wrong. Especially with statistics. :) Sorry for not joining in with the negative brigade….but
https://www.djei.ie/en/Publications/Publication-files/Study-on-the-Prevalence-of-Zero-Hours-Contracts.pdf
Check out figure 3.1 in above. According to CSO 2.7% of full time employees in Ireland could be defined as in zero hour contracts. That’s about 44000 out of workforce of 2.2m. Epidemic mate. This is 2014 data which means it’s probably dropped even further considering government are making it illegal.
Interesting to point out from same figure that % of zero hour contracts in full time actually dropped over the recession period 2007-2014.
Hmm
“I hate debating ye moyest coz you argue black is white most of the time.”
Hey, buddy. You know you’re trying to say that FG did well on employment based just on raw data, don’t you? And I introduced nuance? Do you know what the term ‘black and white’ actually means? You probably don’t, you poor little crature.
“According to CSO 2.7% of full time employees in Ireland could be defined as in zero hour contracts.”
Super. If you took the trouble to read the whole sentence you’re wetting yourself over, you’d see that the main point was about highly qualified people working crappy retail jobs amongst others. You tried your best though, good lad. C-
I really don’t think there is a problem in Ireland where many highly qualified people are working zero hour contracts or behind a till. Just because someone has an arts degree doesn’t make them highly qualified. There are now plenty of opportunities in Ireland for well-educated people who are motivated.
That being said, there is clearly a big unemployment problem in many parts of Ireland which have not been touched by the economic recovery. This is reflected in the census findings published today. So while Steve and Rob G will wax lyrical about the drop in unemployment they are ignoring the reality that the figures are skewed due to the recovery in our most populace regions, and they do not reflect the dire situation in more rural areas.
I do agree. I said it above…need to keep the recovery going etc
@ jungleman – a fair point. I was merely countering Giggidy’s point on emigration figures: we are an open economy, part of the world’s largest trading bloc, so we have lots of both outward and inward migration, so the figure of “240,000 emigrants” has to be considered in this context.
Ah Moyest: responds to some statistics with some made-up anecdotes. Is presented with more figures to support the argument, and he doubles down on his makey-uppy trend, given that he no actual facts to back up his tale. Never change, Moyest.
Her days were numbered as soon as she drove down those steps!
She was probably in Coppers the night before.
Like she was last night with her son.
moderator guys/girls are no fun!
i am reminded of the saying ‘class a people hire other class a people (as they enjoy being pushed and challenged). class b people hire class c people who only want to do what they’re told.
WTF was the point in splitting Finance and PER if you’re going to appoint the same minister over both? Bloody waste of time and money.
They did that to appease Labour back in the day, didn’t they?
Ha ha, remember ‘Labour’?
