…only another week before they can go and do their bit to support apartheid…still time to pull out…

    1. Yep

Not every Israeli supports what Israel is doing. It would be worth the trip if they make a statement of solidarity which I suspect they will.

…if they make the trip they will be ignoring the pleas of the BDS movement and supporting the oppressors. Paul Simon made the same argument in South Africa and has lived to regret his decision. The zionists never tire of telling us that they are the only democracy in the Middle East. They vote for Netanyahu and his policy of apartheid. Nobody does collective punishment like the zionists…they deserve collective responsibility…

        1. Yep

You say “they” though. You can’t tar every Israeli with the Zionist brush. It is a democracy. There is a vocal opposition to the occupation. There are organizations in Israel who wish to see a Palestinian state and work for peace.

If they go over and make a point of acknowledging the issue it does more good than boycotting IMO. UN resolutions and worldwide outcry has done very little to help. Radiohead cancelling a gig will do far less.

…the power of the BDS movement cannot be underestimated. One of the first actions of Nelson Mandela when he was released from prison was to travel to Dublin to thank the Dunnes Stores strikers and acknowledge their part in the boycott that ended the apartheid regime in S Africa. That strike started over a grapefruit.
I don’t need to tar anyone…the zionists do a great job at that theselves. They reserve their most vitriolic outbursts for Jews who do not share their zionist zeal.

          2. Yep

I don’t underestimate them, bisted. Or the thought behind it. I actually support the idea. I do question how effective it can be though.

Israel and SA are in no way comparable. Race and religion are wholly different.

I’m not going to get into a debate about this because I think we most likely agree on most things apart from the Radiohead show going ahead.

I expected you to be on the ” kill the Jews ” post to polish up your anti-Zionist cred. You must have missed it.

If you look at him with one eye slightly closed and the other a bit crossed, it looks fine!

I wouldn’t have the Stones in the top 50. I’d have Teardrop Explodes in the top 5. So I’m afraid we’d fall out over this.

            Oops.
I think the Stones are a brilliant Greatest Hits band.
Where would you have the Beatles?

          2. Brother Barnabas

had a passing interest in the pale once. popped into freebird to see if had anything. came across pacific street by pale fountains. quickly became one of my favourite albums (of that time). if haven’t listened, do yourself a massive favour.

          3. Brother Barnabas

ah here…I know it’s the same guys. That’s why I mentioned it. Brothers I believe.

          4. bertie blenkinsop

Ah here yourself, did you think I had Shack in my top 3 bands and hadn’t heard of them?
That’s like me telling you if you like Paul Weller you might like The Jam.

Anyway, it’s a lovely evening, let’s not argue:)

          1. bertie blenkinsop

I see where you’re going with that Nigel but Bananarama were / are actually brilliant imho:)

Radiohead, like their fans, middle-aged, middle class, white men who can’t be bothered to care anymore.

      1. Friscondo

It’s only hurtful, cos it’s true. They’d have played Sun City if the money was right and you know it.

    1. rotide

I’m sorry, but how is being Middle Class and White hurtful?

Since when did these things become derogatory terms?

You are overwhelmingly likely to be white and middle class also.

      1. Friscondo

“Can’t be bothered to care any more”, this is what being middle aged, white and middle class mostly becomes. Radiohead are the epitome of it. There are of course exceptions, but to see someone like Nick Cave also displaying this treachery towards the Palestinian people fills me with despair. Rock’n Roll is dead, despite what Neil Young once sang. BTW, he did the decent thing and cancelled in 2014. These bands are obviously being offered way over their usual performance fee to normalise apartheid for Israeli government. Money grubbing asshats. Roger Waters is at a stage in his life where integrity and his legacy is more important. These other greedy shortsighted idiots will one day regret their actions.
