Venus and Roger are termed ‘old’ at the “ould tennis” – they appear to be in another final?

The award of damages reported in the IT is complete lunacy.

I’m considering joining the miltary if you can be away from your job for more than 6 months and still be legally entitled to a promotion within that time.

McGregor or Mayweather? Will the racist moron or the serial woman beater take home the hundreds of bajillions of dollars?

What a time to be alive.

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

He’s toeing the line, I’ll grant you, but it’s all part of selling the fight and the media persona.

And you can’t deny, it’s rather entertaining to watch.

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

Can’t agree with you there Bert. I like McGregor. I think what he’s achieved is remarkable. He’s a bit gobby, and brash too, but he’s magnetically charismatic, works hard, and back up his bullpoo.

Can’t comment on Mayweather though. I don’t know enough about boxing, not enough interest in the sport.

          2. Brother Barnabas

            Yep to that.

What the guy has achieved, standards reached etc through work, dedication… extraordinary and admirable.

The “I’m black from the waist down” thing was a bit embarrassing, but I think he knows that himself. Cheeky, likeable feels who knows he has to play the game – and plays it brilliantly (most of the time).

          3. Brother Barnabas

I don’t think McGregor would be anywhere near to where he is now if he wasn’t such a willing participant. It was pretty much an irrelevant sport before he got involved.

          4. bertie blenkinsop

Doesn’t make him any less of a yakball though, some people (not saying you BB) seem willing to overlook any misbehaviour so long as you’re making loads of money.

          5. Brother Barnabas

Yeah, you’re right – but is all that different to an actor playing the role of an obnoxious character in a movie?

And at least he’s earning a living from it – no shortage of fools behaving like that on the streets every night of the week for free (although there’s probably a connection)

          6. Harry Molloy

And probably 15 at the end of 70 minutes seeing as Dermo is suspended!

            I kid, I kid

            /don’t mention the war

          7. Harry Molloy

            +1

I admire Mc, and can’t say I know what he’s really like, but his persona is dirt.

            Mayweather is an irredeemable scumbag.

          8. mildred st. meadowlark

Can’t agree with you there Bert. I like McGregor.

Sure he’s gobby and crass, but that’s his persona – and that’s what sells his fights. He’s done unbelievable things for UFC and MMA in the past 5 years. He’s phenomenally charismatic, magnetic even, and he feeds off this kind of thing, but he’s a hard worker and can back up his bullpoop talk, and has had remarkable success doing what he does.

Can’t speak for Mayweather though. I honestly don’t know enough about boxing, or have enough interest in it to make much of a comment on him.

          9. Nigel

The whole thing sounds toxic and stupid to me, but my opinion cannot be definitive because there’s no way I’m watching any of those videos.

          10. Nigel

I mean I know the whole exercise is to make people really happy to see them beat each other bloody but come on.

        1. Termagant

It’s OK, he’s only being a racist thug so he can make a lot of money?

          Christ alive Mildred.

          1. mildred st. meadowlark

I’ve been watching UFC for a long time – thanks to Mr Meadowlark – I’ve seen all of McGregor’s fights, and more, and I honestly don’t think that he’s actually a racist, that it’s part of the act to sell the show. That’s what this is, after all; a spectacle to draw the crowds.

Mayweather called McGregor a faggot last night, but I don’t necessarily believe that Mayweather is a homophobe (I don’t know, having no real knowledge of boxing). McGregor is good at talking trash, bigging himself up and all that, but it’s all bluster to sell his fights. Its a key part of his success.

However, I could be completely wrong here, and I can see exactly why McGregor is such a divisive character (because I do feel that what we see when he’s promoting a fight is simply a character he is playing).

Lads, where are my comments going?

Am I on the bold step for saying moo-cow poopy? So buppy-pants.

    1. sǝɯǝɯ@upsidedown

      Mildred.
My comments disappear twice as often as yours do.
I say innocuous stuff like Curly Wurly, Loop-di-Loop, Spangles and Fruit Drops.
      ALL of it gets deleted.

      You get censored.
      Count yourself Lucky, you Charmer.

*I’m going to be censored again. I just know it.

A nineteen yr. old asked me yesterday, ”How are you still alive?”
I was a ‘little bit paranoid’ at the time and I took it as a threat.
    I said nothing.*

I now know it was a compliment.

*He has red hair but his Mother is fit.

I get bored when I’m in suspended moderation.

I make jokes that maybe I’m the only one getting anything from.
    – I can’t quite put my finger on it, and it’s not for the want of trying.
Too early to be heading down that slippery slope, apparently.

You know when you’ve been licked.

Big up all of de suckers, fe real.
    Booyakasha…

  7. sǝɯǝɯ@upsidedown

I remember a day, long before the word ‘banter’ became a common word…
People used to have a laugh slagging each other on the Internet in a harmless but funny way.

Is that not still a thing?

Give it to them straight…stop beating about the bush…

My name is not sǝɯǝɯ@upsidedown and I can’t even spell innuendo.

  9. upsidedown, back-to-front, sideways

    I digress…
    I’m a very naughty commentor.
I deserve everything that I’ve asked for.

Let me be firmer with myself as I try to remember the time I went on holiday to Salthill with my Auntie Dolorus. I was young and naive, and at the time I thought ‘trainee-nurse’ was on the same par as ‘Doctor’.
After several examinations I found out she wasn’t even a nurse, according to my parents.

    Anyway Delorus, if you’re reading…
I know you went to Russia, then Antarctica, then Australia. I think they have Internet there, whatever…

    Get in touch.

          1. Brother Barnabas

*kind of* spoils it when you ask me

prefer when you just do it and then I say you shouldn’t have etc

          2. mildred st. meadowlark

Oh yes. I forgot the courtly precedence. Apologies.

I’ll arrange the heralds and a flock of doves to compensate. There might also be a flashmob. Maybe.
