Darragh McDonagh, in The Times of Ireland, reports:

An Garda Síochána is set to spend up to €255,000 on a survey to find out what the public think of the organisation.

The policing authority is seeking a company to provide public survey services over 12 months. The contract is worth up to €255,000 excluding VAT, according to official tender documents.

The documents state that the survey plays an important role in the organisation: “The objective for An Garda Síochána is a top quality survey of public attitudes relating to awareness and effectiveness of garda publicity campaigns, and perceptions of crime at local and national level.”

The public will be asked their “views of the garda organisation and how it can be improved”…

First place to start. Stop lying.

All the rest of the steps should follow on from this.

Handy quarter of a million. I wonder will Amárach get the sop again? Was the 2016 one not accurate?

I recently took a survey from Amarach Research for an garda síochana on attitudes towards the police in my area. This seems a little like doubling up. maybe some intrepid journalist could fund out why someone thinks it’s a grratbidea to do the same job twice.

    most likely, they don’t kjow

I was surveyed last week. Questions were very bland & mostly meaningless. Irrespective of how people respond the outcome will not impact negatively on the Fuzz.

I was ready to give them my opinion for free, but if they are willing to pay me so much money, I’ll take it.

I never had a positive opinion of the guards. It has been my experience that they behave differently depending on the affluence of a particular area. A unsuspicious suicide discovery in a Dublin south west housing estate will be a war zone with tabloid TV3 “journalists” tipped off which will turn the area into a fiasco . police tape everywhere, guards coming and going for days clocking up plenty of OT. Whereas, someone clearly murdered in a house in a swanky area, you will hardy know the guards are there. Investigations will be kept discreet and neighbors treated with respect instead of contempt. They drive so bad they sometimes flip there own cars while not even chasing anyone like that time near Nutgrove years ago in broad daylight. luckily killing only themselves in the process. They start off jumped up little gurriers with badges and power trips and grow into arrogant corrupt loners with superiority complexes like they are the only people who see bad things in work. Ambulance personnel and Fire Brigades don’t behave that way. I don’t like being in the company of off duty cops. I’m proud to say I not friends with any guards and I don’t really like the type of people who brag that they are mates of a guard who got them off one thing or another either. The guards up in Buncrana used to plant drugs on people. A known criminal leaves near your house? Get used ready for police check points stopping you in your car checking tax insurance while coming and going to work asking if you know Mr X . Instead of dealing with the guy themselves, cowards. the best response I heard was “is he a criminal or a guard? because I don’t associate with either” The list goes on and on, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have a negative story.

An Garda Siochana and the Policing Authority are two separate bodies so who is seeking this survey? The article refers to both

Is this some sort of joke? I ask you – is no-one in charge of anything in this country? This is an absolute disgrace – I can answer the questions An Garda Siochana may wish to ask for a hundred euro. Must we really sit and wait for the C&AG’s report – two years from now – to find out this was money ill spent, and also went over budget?

This is honestly just click bait. I haven’t a clue how much it costs to run a survey but I’d prefer to have from somebody who does rather than they’re paid too much crowd.

It’s essentially the right wingers given out about scumbags getting the dole to do nothing – it’s a tad more complicated
