Against The Crane

at

This morning.

Samuel Beckett Bridge

Crane drivers and members of Unite Trade Union march this morning  to the Health Executive Authority to protest against what they claim are unsafe and non qualified crane drivers.

They are also looking for a pay increase from their current wage of 16.69 euro per hour to 24 euro per hour.

The row is further intensified by an inter-union spat with Siptu and Unite over which union represents the crane drivers.

FIGHT!

And here’s Shayna to tell us about who’s knob she manoeuvred while working that job…

I was only thinking the other day, “Imagine the things Olly Murs had to do for Simon Cowell to make him a star…”

I played a quick game of Price is Right amongst my, admittedly overpaid, co-workers after learning their hourly wage. No one guessed less than €50 per hour.

I pay my cleaner more than they are getting to manoeuvre giant loads over our heads. I’d be much happier if they weren’t feeling disgruntled about their pay, or getting distracted during work thinking about how they are going to cover back to school costs etc.

What industry do you work in where they think that €50 an hour is the going rate for semi-skilled labour, and cleaners earn €17 an hour(?)

My cleaner doesn’t work in my industry, though industry is probably a strong word for what I do anyway.

If you think the housing crisis is bad now, wait til you see how few houses are built once manual labourers start demanding €50 an hour…

I would have thought that operating a crane is a highly skilled job that requires a lot of skill.

        No, from the UK:

The vast majority of contractors now require a crane operator to have a Construction Plant Competency Scheme (CPCS) licence. To get one you need to go on a two-week training course where you’ll be schooled on the functions and properties of a crane with a theory and practical test at the end.

        Two weeks to become one.

Vague Claim about health and safety to make cause seem worthy? Check

Really about wanting more money? Check

    Union infighting? Check

    BINGO

Kid Jensen, it’s on at the later time of 11.45 tonight because of Vincent leaving TV3.

Health and safety. Up there with “bullying” and “fairness” as the latest excuse for whatever you’re having yourself.

Are crane drivers paid out of taxes? Are they?
If they are in private enterprise – they are doing exactly what they should be doing – bargaining. Just like their bosses do. What is so fupping alien about it? :-)
If some of you feel undeserving a pay increase or fearful of asking – that’s entirely your personal problem. Sunday mass is a good place to feel unworthy, not private workplace.

I understand there is some skill in operating a crane but €24hr worth of skill?

They are doing what BATU did with the blocklayers, ensuring their own extinction.
In a few years the job will be done by a robot and we can say good riddance to the 2nd laziest shower of entitled fupps on a building site.
