In the 10th round of a surprisingly competitive fight, Mayweather backed McGregor onto the ropes with a series of rights and lefts. McGregor’s face was completely bloodied. He was about to fall through the ropes, and the referee stepped in to stop the fight with 1:55 remaining in the round.

    all of the above,
I watched it with a cynical professional boxer who had to give the guy his dues despite his “odd box like a pawing cat”
    closest translation
and the Irish support is great better than the tired jaded ” support ” of older nations who are above getting on the home team

I didn’t know until today that Mayweather likes boxing women too. Except not in the ring.

Four times he’s been involved with domestic abuse, wasn’t it? Convicted a few times as well. Didn’t he serve time for it?

  2. Charlie

He was given a lesson by a man way beyond his best. He still had to curse like a scrote after the fight. He’s a clown.

        why dumb
it’s so easy to pass judgement on something you clearly know nothing about
I can’t believe you’ve ever pushed yourself in a physical/ mental capacity or you’d at least have respect for the work it has taken

        1. Charlie

Fyi. I boxed for many years. My beef is with his obnoxious behaviour not with his athleticism.

          1. Janet, I ate my avatar

            ok
            fair enough
but isn’t that all second degree for the American market ?
            hype = money

          2. Janet, I ate my avatar

            out of interest Charlie
how would you define yourself if you had to pick a word opposite to scrote ?

          3. mildred st. meadowlark

I like how you’re unable to tell the difference between a public persona and a private one.

FYI – I curse like a ‘scrote’, as you so charmingly put it, because I enjoy it. It relieves tension in a very stressful job.

I work long hours, and work my arse off while I’m there, and it annoys me that there are judgemental fools like you who assume that because a person curses they are automatically a ‘scrote’.

          4. mildred st. meadowlark

I am. I have the vagina to prove it Harry.

Whether or not I curse has little to do with who I am as a person.

          5. Harry Molloy

unless bodger would be willing to post a picture of said vagina I’ll just have to take your word for it. lady.

          6. mildred st. meadowlark

            No, you’ve rumbled me.

I’m actually a fifteen year old boy called Michael. Feck it anyway.

Mildred, you spoke of your fragrant lady garden to others – I don’t know if I can ever feel the same……

made 9,000 million cause that’s how we loves our sports……earning potential …jaysus it wasn’t even boxing and shumpks lapped it up still claiming some high ground “when was the last time you made 40000 belgilion?? at least he had the courage to walk around the ring like the amateur and get hammered

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

      ah that’s just build up
what’s with people taking that seriously
he far from let himself down
that wasn’t an easy transition of a skill set or stamina

      1. Westbrit

Skill set and stamina ?? He didn’t leave a mark on Mayweather and was all blown out by round 5. All the hot air and bravado was shown up as just that.

        1. Janet, I ate my avatar

actually he forced Mayweather out of a defence box so he had to move into him
he got some good shots in, took a fair few without loosing heart and stayed a stamina he doesn’t usually fight

          1. rotide

            What fight were you watching?

He didn’t force mayweather to do anything. He got a couple of shots in that achieved nothing and gassed himself within 4 rounds. Floyd just did what he always does.

Like fair play to him for getting the fight to happen and making himself 100 million blips but it’s not like he was a fat arthritic couch potato before this. He is one of the worlds foremost combat sports practitioner, it didn’t take mountains to be moved to get him up to a certain standard. He’s a brilliant UFC fighter but a pretty mediocre boxer. Everyone knew this including McGregor.

it’s a bit like a chat up line
you know you hear you’re gonna be kept up all night and it’ll blow your mind
but in reality you’re happy with someone showing they know how to use a compass for longer than 20 minutes

      1. mildred st. meadowlark

I think part of it is that McGregor does it so well. You can almost believe the hype, you know? The fact that he has backed his words up with action in the past makes him very convincing too.

I think he done good, all things considered. It was enjoyable, and I had a great time roaring at the TV like a lunatic, despite knowing p_ss all about boxing.

        1. Janet, I ate my avatar

          I know
I’m actually a massive boxing fan and genuinely appreciate the work he put in
the mad comments are the same people who snub a lads Berlin marathon bracelet
stop with the denial I say unless you man yourself and congratulate the effort of something you underestimate
apologies for the rambling if incoherent I can’t do franglais..working all weekend and stayed up toooooo late

          1. BT Barham

a massive boxing fan….really ? he trained for 3 & months in a professional discipline…Mayweather is an aunt but he is very good at what he does/did ….it’s akin to a punter walking up to a flight deck on a commercial airplane and saying “givus a shot at landing this”

          2. Janet, I ate my avatar

you have kind of made my point
it took balls to take on champion of another discipline
and it took had work to produce respectable job of a match

          3. Janet, I ate my avatar

when I say massive boxing fan
            understand
someone who does take the sport seriously and works hard
            and as such has humility
and can appreciate the work that went in
I’m not saying he’s the champ just respect where it’s due
            massive marketing coup
and not a farce of a match

          4. Yep

Has the punter spent 3 months clocking flight time? Think that’s how long it takes get a licence for light aircraft.

Granted, a commercial plane is considerably more difficult. Especially in once in a generation storm weather but there is still a chance they could hit the landing.

Hope that helps you terrible analogy.

As it turned out, neither of the two turned up anywhere near their best…..

Conor McGregor at approx 170lbs was about 15lbs too heavy for his already deeply flawed cardio vascular stamina ability as proven in both of his MMA fights with Nate Diaz previously where he ran out of steam after around 15miins in both fights.

He should not have tried to stand and bang like a boxer, even at the same range he does in the UFC. He should have stayed true to his word and used a Jeet Kune Do approach of constantly moving and staying loose and go at it for an early finish that he is capable of and yes, even in the first 5 rounds of a boxing match. Unfortunately he lacked belief from the start, froze-up and slowed down showing only a sample of his skill but mostly his toughness with a little durability under stress in the end..

Floyd “wife-beater” Mayweather was well past his prime, getting hit very easily while uncharacteristically missing a lot of shots before he switched up his solid plan from doing nothing for three rounds while drawing the energy out of McGregor before turning into a mexican style aggressive style that he never had the hands/balls/madness to use against any other seasoned professional in his previous fights.

Even while McGregor was drained of energy he had trouble putting him down but it looked like it it was coming soon despite Mayweathers brittle hands and lack of power.

Everone was left a winner, an unknown novice turned pro debutant versus a 49-0 pro and lasting 10 rounds without a KO or even a fall to the canvas is some mean feat to achieve.

On the night, the emporer may have had no clothes and did not really have the kind of mental belief he needed to overcome the boxing vs MMA challenge… but I just wish he had employed his brain a bit more on using martial arts skills with a proper weight for his frame and cardio, rather than just focusing on not having a right to be there to spoil the party and collecting the dollar bills regardless….

He could have been the Irish “Bruce Lee” !!!!!?!?!?!

Whatever may have been, it was a fun fight and he’s still a living legend.
