Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, centre, at the Ploughing Championships earlier today
RTE reports:
A Wicklow councillor expelled from Sinn Féin has said the party did not even have the courtesy to tell him about the expulsion.
Councillor Gerry O’Neill said he, along with fellow councillors John Snell and Oliver O’Brien, had previously lost the party whip.
This follows a dispute over the appointment of Councillor Nicola Lawless as Sinn Féin group leader on Wicklow County Council.
Cllr O’Neill said the move was part of a wider bid by the party to control councillors and make them “nodding dogs.”

Meanwhile…
From the Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, Co Offaly…
Harry McGee, in The Irish Times, reports:
…The three have said the party has tried to browbeat them and to impose decisions and officers on them. Mr O’Neill has previously said he would not be a “nodding dog” for any party.
Speaking on the issue of Sinn Féin’s handling of such complaints – and others, some of which involve cases of alleged bullying – Mr Adams said that “if Sinn Féin is to be blamed internally for one thing, it is perhaps we have been too patient in trying to get people to deal with issues in a fraternal way and you get to the point where you realise that that is just not possible.”
“So, with great reluctance, we have expelled these three councillors, we have done it within our own rules, our own regulations and they know well that that was coming to them.”

Once Jorry steps down as leader this party is bound to split. The level of in-fighting is unreal.
Actually very common in most parties. Even the three person Soc Dems split!
It’s Tito-era stuff
it would be interesting to see some stats on the quittings/dismissings
For all parties.
sure, but these guys specifically
Why SF specifically?
Curiosity because there has been multiple departures at this stage due to allegations of bullying
Fair point. Something a bit odd going on there.
well Harry
Brace yerself bhoy
selection conventions are underway
so you’ll see plenty of departures
allegations of bullying
explusions
and new independents
I’m wondering why it would be surprising for anyone that a party full of rapist-protecting psychopaths might also be full of bullies.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve had enough…
They reappropiated my mantra.
Next thing you know they’ll be singing ‘My Way’, like what I do.
Political parties loose members or representatives all the time. But it only seems to matter when it is Sinn Fein.
It was the number one item on the RTE radio news, that tells you all you need to know.
Could you give us a brief round up of the other parties where they have repeatedly have sitting members leave due to bullying or get disqualified by the party leadership? It is quite common at the moment for SF but you two seem to think its true for all parties so I am curious to see this
It’s Wicklow
FFS
Every Party has a falling out down there
Lock Outs at selection conventions
Fistie cuffs on the canvas
Lads swapping in an’ out’ve t-shurts
Separate Tally men
Tis not just GAA refs that cause ructions down there in the Garden County
BTW
A few Shinners down in Cork got effed out too
The SF boys and girls know how to plough crooked furrows.
Turning swords into ploughshares. And then hitting each other with the ploughshares.
!
Sinn Fein is a Stalinist, completely bogus democrat party. It’s run by the Army Council and it’s elected representatives are their puppets, put in place to have their strings pulled. Parts of the North are run like local fiefdoms. See Sean “Spike” Murray and extended family around the Springfield Rd. it’s all a sham. Not to mention how many of them are compromised by MI5 and could end up at Cabinet, privy to sensitive information, that post Brexit, the Brits would love to get their hands on. These people pose a threat to national security.
you should hand over all the details you have to the relevant authorities.
You should pay a visit to the UK’s National Archives at Kew someday. I have come across quite a few reports from the 1970s and 80s of Irish cabinet ministers and senior security force members telling their British counterparts all sorts of sensitive information. To remind you, these were TDs from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Labour. And these are the files they deemed mild enough to open after the thirty years.
But don’t let us stop you making a fool of yourself.
…or read Wikileaks and see how Tainiste Gilmore was up at the US Embassy briefing them on cabinet discussions…
The upper echelons of the IRA, and by definition Sinn Fein were riddled with Brit touts. So don’t let that stop you making a fool of yourself. I’m referring to compromised informants. A party that has had the same leader for 35 years is not a normal Democratic Party.
How many years did Dev have at the top of FF. 33?
Right , yeah, very contemporary and thus relevant.
Alright, I’ll try again. Ian Paisley, leader of the DUP for 37 years. Contemporary and relevant enough?
Kudos for comparison with those medieval lunatics.
(Deceased) Ian Paisley – that’s who you’re choosing for a contemporary and relevant political leader?
Friscondo’s statement was “A party that has had the same leader for 35 years is not a normal Democratic Party” and I’ve pointed out that the largest political party in NI had, until relatively recently, a leader that served for 37 years. That’s contemporary and relevant enough for me.
Maybe it is the political environment and culture that exists in NI that we need to discuss and not just one party that operates within it.
BTW, John Hume racked up 22 years with the SDLP
Again Adams has never faced another candidate. I notice there’s no mention of the fact they’re riddled with Brit touts. Proven fact. Donaldson, Scappaticci and the others who managed to escape exposure.
That’s mad. At what year precisely does democracy slip into dictatorship then?
He’s never been opposed. Is that normal in a democracy.
When politicians start trying to interfere with the judiciary is often a sign.
You know who else opposes the SCC?
Sorry, let me rephrase for added hysteria. You know who else interferes with the judiciary?
lol
I don’t know – some other people whose mates happened to be on trial there at the time?
No. The ICCL, Amnesty Int’l and the UN Commission on Human Rights.
Refer back to what I posted earlier about people looking like fools when commenting here.
Ye’re run by the Brits.
Given their proven track record in intimidating juries, I don’t know if trial by jury, while desirable in most cases, is a good idea in cases involving the IRA.
