It really is. Is it just me or are these getting a lot better recently?

Its quite fundamental this and almost smacks of linguistic apartheid by the DUP. To deny people an act that enshrines their right to speak their chosen native language is a bit racist. I hope people in the republic would wish the same rights for those in the north, as we do in matters of gender rights. They are both essential elements of identity.
Did their Scots planter descendants not speak Gaelic? Could they not come at this with a ‘shared heritage’ perspective?
Of course they did. Nearly every town and village they live is named in Irish as many were named by those same planters. Its blatant sectarianism. A few years ago, there were a few Unionist politicians who began to embrace Irish, but they have hardened now and not an inch. Its a battle they will ultimately lose.
All this means that if (when) there is a united Ireland that the DUP’s attitude will be a lot closer to that of the 26 counties than SF’s attitude. I could see a FF-DUP government by 2025.
