Meh. It’s Portobello and it’s presumably been fitted out with all mod cons so it’s not cold and leaky. Like other Portobello gafs. So beautiful…so damp.

More fool them, then. Three years down the line when we go back to bust they’ll be feeling rather ill, won’t they?

I remember at the height of it we lost out on/luckily escaped one of these shoeboxes but one in an almost derelict condition (aka. with amazing redevelopment potential, a great fixer upper!) in Rialto…getting outbid at every turn this is what we faced into for a 1st house…I viewed it with the other unfortunates but because of the condition of it I brought one of my mates along, a builder. it was sound enough but he told me something really useful…that for several weeks prior he’d been hearing that the builders into refurb n flip work were getting outbid all the time by have a go heroes as he called them & he advised to stay clear & keep on renting. I did. In pure comedy style I even ended up in a little fight with my poor mam & dad who had wanted to do a short remortgage to help us out.

the kip in question eventually went for €397k & it needed at least 100k thrown at it. that was summer 2007. I’m a lucky sod.

we did indeed until last year mam & dad had passed and I inherited…could have been utterly different just dumb luck

      So your advice is
“Don’t buy a house kids because luckily one day your parents will die”?

      Unusual :)

      1. martco

ah now Bertie c’mon ffs?! just the way the cards fell.
nope no advice except to listen to a wise owl builder mate if u have one and he’s telling you to walk away and not to be setting fire to yourself and whatever couple of quid you’ve scraped together

Ah Martco I’m only pulling your leg, no offence intended, I think the way you explained it was odd that’s all.

          * fist bump *

          1. martco

            ah no worries B
I often felt sick for those who just wanted a home and whose only error was that they listened to slick mortgage sales people & zealous family members and ended up badly burnt. sure even when things were on the way down we still felt pressure to buy. a home just isn’t supposed to be a commodity

    Also.

Elizabeth Birdthistle?? Is she a real person, or some friend of Bertie Wooster?

    Hallelujah.
I love me a good property bubble.
Bought four cheap as chips apartments between 2012-2013 and will take advantage of the exemption on CGT once I’ve held onto them for 7 years.
All are up nearly 40% in value and rented out for €850 a month.
Unload them all tax-free in 2-3 years time and I’m sitting on enough moolah never to have to work another day in my life.
    Yeah,baby,yeah.
I love me a good property bubble.

Nobody will buy your stupid apartments mate, watch the investment go down the spout as you try to recoup it through rent..

    2. Naoml

Regarding your comment on not having to work again, are you not way past retirement age Charger?

      1. Naoml

+1 Papi, can’t erase the image of Charger being one of those ‘Dads Army’ old codgers – the union jack boxers complete the vision, cheers ;-)

  5. martco

well at least looks like there won’t be many credit union loans getting blown on trips to Russia next year. just as well as would prefer not to see the green army getting mashed by the local firms

dreadful game so far, it’s barely football

    1. Yep

Aahhhhh but sure we would be better off with a late one if she stays like this. Wes in at 65’…Mix her up.

Of course you want us there. Stop lying to yourself ;)

  6. Owen C

I wouldn’t personally touch this with a barge pole….but….if they can rent this out for 2k a month (and they probably will), then it equates to 4.5% gross yield on that 535k price tag. Not insane, but not ridiculous either. They’ll probably get 500k for it.
