I wonder has it anything to do with the Disqus hack from last week, independent.ie used Disqus as their comment platform from what I recall.

And now onto to liars…….

And yet Redacted tried to make the laws more draconian by challenging Dail Privilege.

Well, if anyone is familiar with the ins and outs of Ireland’s libel laws, it’s Dinny.
Pete Tong
Denis O’Brien would hardly describe the libel system in Ireland as draconian. Nice one to all the commenters for trying to attribute it to him though. Stick to reading broadsheet for your news – one or two sentences coupled with a picture is probably enough for most of you.

HE IS AMONG US. TUG A FORELOCK. TALK ITALIAN. SACRIFICE A LAMB. DO SOMETHING.

Despite the circumstances for this move, disabling comments isn’t necessarily a bad thing (Broadsheet.ie the obvious exception!)
Andrew
why is disabling comments not a bad move?
Rob_G
Because they tend to be full of vindictive scutter.
Andrew
But the comments here or elsewhere are a better class of comment? Is that it?
Rob_G
No, they are pretty much on the same level. People lose all sense of perspective, become completely polarised, and say just plain hateful things to one another over such trivial issues.
One commentator on this site, speaking about a TV presenter he doesn’t like, compared her to a ‘disintegrating blow-up doll’ – I mean WTF? I don’t even think that he thought she was an awful person, he just didn’t like her TV presenting(?)
Bonkers
you should get over to the Journal if you think the comments are of the same level, it’s a stinky cesspit of a sewer over there

Serious question…
Is it still cool to take the 9155 out of people?
(I’m asking for my friend Dave.)
There shall be no diverting from the InDOB narrative.
A rag full of columnists sputtering forth the opinions they’ve been told to give.
…Denis does seem to be applying the Rupert model…
What about the intellectual powerhouse Vogue Williams. You can’t be including her with that lot. Lol.

The comments section is where the real uncensored, unediated journalism is.
Yes and your comment shows the value and the worth of that hooralism.
You can walk the walk, Walk Walk, but you’re the type who can’t type the talk.
‘hooralism’ is not a proper word.
I checked.
I wonder if the Indo staffer who wrote that was intentionally taking a sly dig at DOB.
anonymous haters do anonymous hate shockah !
They should also get rid of those “Breaking News” icons they are sticking to every mediocre story.
I thought all newpaper websites had closed their comments by now.
You should reconsider your pseudonym.
That underscore is fooling nobody.
Shame the policy doesn’t apply to the Journali.ie. though in fairness the comments there are the best content on the website.
Is that a new site then?
Don’t be so fickle Darling.
Sites don’t have to be ‘new’ to be groovy and cool.
I don’t know why she popped into my head just now, but Twink…
…She didn’t just jump on the first new thing that passed her by, and she’s a Superstar.
