Playing With Fire

at

Via Tallaght Neignourhood Watch:

This shocking incident happened in Dublin City Centre where a young male put a firework down the back of a young female.

This could have had a fatal result on that young girl. At best she is going to be left with 3rd degree burns and hearing problems, not to mention the mental trauma.

Can we all take a minute to speak to our kids on the run up to Halloween and what they might think is funny, may cause serious injury to others or themselves.

I’ve seen lately people aiming fireworks into crowds of people and onto the buses and luas. This needs to stop. Play your part and speak to your kids please.

Jesus F Christ! And you can hear them laughing… this is what happens if a child doesn’t receive an iota of parental guidance

    1. Birdie

I know it’s the mocking laughter that gets me, no empathy or respect for others. It’s so intimidating. But as you said Harry, where’s the parental guidance?

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

“this is what happens if a child doesn’t receive an iota of parental guidance”

You did though. This was the same line Joan Burton instructed her PR people to use about the Jobstown protestors; that they’re bad parents because poor people, as you clearly believe, are uncivilised. You said the same about Arabs.

          2. Harry Molloy

wow, you think poor parental guidance is limited to areas that are socially disadvantaged?

that’s pretty insulting and completely inaccurate

          3. ahjayzis

Is it your contention that the kid that did this was ‘raised right’?

You’re the one inferring their socioeconomic class, you’re the one giving them a pass becuase you think they’re ‘poor’, you’re the one infantilising and excusing things due to income.

That rugby lad who stabbed his friend years back – he was a scumbag with bad parents too, private school or not.

          4. MoyestWithExcitement

“wow, you think poor parental guidance is limited to areas that are socially disadvantaged?”

No, mate. That’s clearly what you think, If this kid was from Blackrock, I’d have put money on you not inferring you know anything about his upbringing. But he wears a tracksuit and he’s from Tallaght, so you’ve decided you know exactly how he was raised. “Not an iota”. Not even a little bit of parenting because his parents are poor and you think they’re all uncivilised.

          5. MoyestWithExcitement

“Is it your contention that the kid that did this was ‘raised right’?”

I’ve no idea. Neither do you. When middle class kids do crappy things, their parents integirty tends not to be brought up though.

“you’re the one giving them a pass”

Where do you see me giving him a pass?

“you’re the one infantilising and excusing things due to income.”

Where am I doing this? What exactly did I say?

“That rugby lad who stabbed his friend years back – he was a scumbag with bad parents too, private school or not.”

‘Some of my best friends are black’

“I’ve no idea. Neither do you. When middle class kids do crappy things, their parents integirty tends not to be brought up though.”

This is total and complete bullshit. This is not a “crappy thing”, it’s grievous bodily harm. You do no one any favours by defending it, downplaying it, or changing the subject to how we’re absolutely MAD to be inferring bad parenting by someone who raises a fupping socipath.

          7. ahjayzis

‘Some of my best friends are black’

            Nice comeback, Priscilla!

“OJ was innocent because the evidence had racist tendencies”

          9. MoyestWithExcitement

It wasn’t a comeback, it was an analogy. ‘See, look at me saying that middle class person was a scumbag. I *couldn’t* have prejudiced beliefs about the poor’

          10. MoyestWithExcitement

“This is total and complete rubbish.”

It really isn’t. There’s a video of Joan Burton using this as a PR tactic FFS.

“This is not a “crappy thing”, it’s grievous bodily harm.”

‘Crappy thing’ is clearly an ambiguous colloquialism that means different things to different people so you’re only arguing with yourself on that point.

.”You do no one any favours by defending it”

You’re reaching desperation point when you’re advising me against doing something I haven’t done. What favours are any of us doing anyone here by the way? What do you think this is other than a comments section of a blog used by about 20 people? Look, I get it. You posted about a need for parenting licences (a line often used regarding working class parents) and felt I attacked you personally. You could take a step back and think about what you’re saying though,

          11. MoyestWithExcitement

I know. Accusing me of being on the same level makes you feel better about what you’re saying. I get it. x

          1. MoyestWithExcitement

Sure, anything you say, sport. :D You’re just lucky your disgusting comments about poor people and Muslims aren’t preserved in black and white on the comme…oh wait…..:D

      1. painkiller

        @MoyestWithExcitement

Some people are dragged up and don’t get the stability and encouragement that kids need. Very often these kids grow up socially and economically deprived. Your bleeding heart approach of “standing up for the working class” looks like nothing more than empty posturing.

The kind of behaviour you see in the video is a dead giveaway and the first step in addressing it (i.e. making sure that there are school councillors available to temper them and that initiatives like Big Brother cross their path) involves acknowledgment of the issue – that is, if you care enough that would genuinely like to see people have a path from poverty to contentment.

        1. MoyestWithExcitement

“The kind of behaviour you see in the video is a dead giveaway”

Dead giveaway to what, exactly? Potentially ironic sentence there. If you don’t think well reared teenagers are capable of this kind of thing, you live in a bubble.

    2. Junkface

      +1
Scummy teens dragged up by lousy neglectful parents. Totally lacking empathy for that poor girl. Shocking and cruel stuff.

    1. Rob_G

It was definitely a very scummy thing to do, but one unlikely to result in fatal injuries.

(though of she had have been wearing a polyester top, it could have gone up).

      1. :-Joe

Trust me there’s no point, you’d probably need about five hundred before you’d get lift off…

Definitely more than ten anyway, I’m sure of that.

        :-J

    2. Frilly Keane

      Stop it Jock
If that girl had’a had any product on her hair
Like hairspray or that straightener protection stuff
There could well have been a fire ball

      Jesus.
      Grow up

    3. Keith O'Connor

What a stupid, uneducated, absolute gobpoop of a thing to say. The girls hair could of caught fire, it could have damaged her skull, her hearing. Anything. Let’s strap a firework to your head and then we’ll see if that comment still stands. Moron.

      1. bad@memes

        …could of caught fire…

        Oh dear, Keith.
I don’t know where to begin.

You were born with unfortunate initials. Even when you spell them backwards it still sounds like ‘cock’.
        – But I didn’t come here (just now) to ridicule you.
        – I think you’re very nice.
        – I’m going to be very nice too.

If it’s any help, I once knew a d***head from Galway called Mark Smith. It was a long time ago and I couldn’t handle it.
I called him Keith. I think Keith is a good name. I like it.
He still owes me £20. It’s a long story. £20 was like €100 back in them days.

        What’s this thread about?

    4. Praetorian

I reckon all the other replys to your ill educated comment will stop me being moderated.
      Clown.

      1. bad@memes

So long as your spelling and grammar isn’t considered by the jury in any judicious manner you should be fine,
Therre WAS just one thing… prayt protre
        prator partorinin.

        What’s this about a Clown?
        – Do you know something?

  2. Frilly Keane

    Christ
    that is Shocking

    that poor girl

if I got me own hands on ‘im
I’d have ta’ be dug out’ve ‘im

  3. bad@memes

    I agree, but…

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to have Fireworks taken OUT off the Black Market, away from the badly translated Chinese instructions and the sweaty braziers of Moore Street?
    – To pretend they exist, and maybe educate about their dangers? Instead of just hoping that kids know this stuff instinctively? I don’t think they do.

    – Or maybe just stop putting on big displays and reminding impressionable young kids that there’s one law for them…
You’re literally lighting a fuse that’s bound to blow up in your face.

    1. :-Joe

Yup… but the workd is changing fast…..

Like every type of drug, you can get practically anything odered online through various sources these days.

Anyone want a roman candle for when the pope arrives?..

      Anyone?,,,

      :-J

  4. I.P.

That could traumatize a child for life. I’m so glad I lived a nice sheltered life. Knowing nothing of white socked, short pantsed street vermin. City life looks stressful.

  5. St. John Smythe

there’s always the one dubious man who is way too old to be hanging out with such a bunch

    1. bad@memes

      I’ve been rumbled….

…oh wait, you weren’t talking about Broadsheet at all, were you?
      – Carry on.

  6. frank o'shea

That is G.B.H. right there. That was not a ‘prank’.
That individual along with his buddies ought be put against a wall and shot.
I know that’s not christian attitude but I do believe those young guys will go on to do far greater harm soon as they get the hang of getting away with such as that.
Which is what will certainly happen.

  7. Kolmo

Seems to be a thing – On evening of the Las Vegas shootings being on the news all day – kids in kilcock shot a large firework at a large group of commuters queuing to get out of the station, me being one of them, made everyone jump out their skin, i swore like a docker, very dangerous, nobody bothered about contacting gardaí, not sure what is more depressing, the complete lack of confidence that there would be a garda response or that teenagers thought it was funny to blast fireworks at people on a train platform..C units

    1. bad@memes

      …the Las Vegas shootings…

      – Exaggerate much Kolmo?
I only know of ONE the Las Vegas shooting. It was last week, not yesterday evening.

But your exaggeration is a million times less irritating as your convoluted confluence..

    Back in the Real World…
This kinda thing has been going on since I was a kid, and that was 40+yrs ago.
Admittedly, we didn’t video it and post it on-line. We would’ve if we could’ve, but I digress.

It’s just a classic case of an immature bloke trying to tell a shy girl that he fancies her without making eye-contact. Nothing to see here, if you will forgive the pun.

It’s not an act of aggression.
    – Borderline bullying at worst. Not aggression.

    Grow up.

    1. Godwin's Law Enforcement

Two references on the page to how amazingly old you are, yet you post like a 14 year old. I’m dubious.

      1. :-Joe

…but how will we get letters and all them weird plastic chinese stuffs off the interwebz?..

        Is it dem dronez maybe?

Dublin City Centre Via “Tallaght” Neighborhood Watch (?) Do we really have to attach Tallaght to every random act of anti social behavior. It brings down the tone of the area. Its bad enough every gunshot victim in South Dublin gets TALLAGHT hospitaled in the media via TV3 even though the people involved are from other areas. Well done Broadsheet and Garthicus. This isn’t going to give scotes ideas at all.

    1. :-Joe

I’m trying to follow your advice but you’ve just mentioned it twice,,,

and I think charlie is trying to put you out of work btw…

      :-J

    2. Rob_G

‘Tallaght Neighbourhood Watch’ is the name of the Facebook group who posted the video; suggest you write to them and ask them to change their name to something a little less Tallaght-y.

      1. postmanpat

Thanks. I figured that out. But back to my point, It happened in the city centre, This has nothing to do with Tallaght so why are Tallaght Neighborhood Watch freebooting the openly available video (that was uploaded by one of the towny scotes) and banging on about it like they broke the story?

  10. :-Joe

It’s shocking how badly shot that clip wasfor 2017…

I recommend you use landscape mode and turn on full HD if you really want to incite a more impactful and intense cinematic sense of fear and disgust,,,

The loose, shakey handheld camera movement was good though… it adds the effect of kitchen sink realism and a real bang of dramatic impact to the whole piece.

    :-J

      1. :-Joe

First thing I’d question is where is the last 10-30 secs of that recording…. the raw directors cut.

Either way, I do hope the girl is ok in case anyone mistakes it for being cold, heartless or dismissive…

        :-J

  11. snowey

it happened in Dublin 1 . no complaint to the gardai yet , they settle their own battles in that neck of the woods.
knew a guy from near railway street (where this happened) before…was stabbed in the neck by a guy he knew from school (he was delivering pizza) . wasn’t in his interest to report it . the local expectation was he would beat the guy to a pulp and that would be that.
he wasn’t the type to do that kinda thing…his cousin was though.
cousin balanced the equation , assailant wasn’t able to walk for a few months.
    everybody was happy.

    different rules , different society

    what can be done?
    increase the dole…that’ll solve it
