      Sorry, I don’t quite understand.
Are you saying Hillary Clinton is the one who triggered all the current news items about Harvey?

      1. Rob_G

        ?

Hillary Clinton didn’t give a poop when it was her own husband using his powerful position to sexually exploit young women, I would doubt if she cared about some film producer doing same.

        1. MoyestWithExcitement

          “?”

He’s saying Hillary Clinton has zero to do with Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulting women so it’s shameless political point scoring to bring her up. You’re showing your “civility” again by blaming a woman for the actions of her husband. Well done.

          1. Gimme Shelter

I think he’s directly implying that the reason the Harvey Weinstein allegations have finally come to the public eye is because up to now he was bribing Hillary Clinton to subvert them. A jolly sort of chap and original thinker is our poster.

          2. MoyestWithExcitement

Yeah, fair enough. I note as well that a lot of her detractors, like Psycho Rob here, are ideologically aligned with Clinton meaning there must be some *other* reason for the resentment they feel towards HER. I wonder what that could be. Hmmmmm.

    2. ReproBertie

I have a quick question for you jusayinlike.

Who is responsible for Harvey Weinstein’s behaviour?
      a) Loads of people, including Hillary Clinton and Donald “not surprised” Trump, who aren’t Harvey Weinstein
      or
      b) Harvey Weinstein

    3. Clampers Outside!

Apparently, she praised the “courage” of Weinstein’s accusers.

And has been asked, if they are more courageous than Broaddrick, Willey or Jones?

Women whom Hillary treated very badly.

      She’s a hypocrite, jumping on a bandwagon.

      1. Nigel

The hypocrisy of attacking her for this (though she does deserve cririticism) after Trump got elected to the most powerful political position in the world is astronomical. Not much attention paid to his accuders; eh? Rich powerful white men sexually harass women: let’s attack a woman for it!

Great budget news for us vultures.
The CGT exemption 7-year rule reduced to four isn’t garnering much attention in the media but there’s a hell of a lot of properties scooped up by private investors under this scheme which can now be sold tax free.
The question is does one sell or hold while the latest property bubble gathers pace ?
What a nice quandary to find oneself in and what a pleasant surprise from Paschal.

        1. Twunt

Indeed, I find that most people who harp on about ‘vulture funds’ have no idea what they are for, or that their pension fund probably has ‘vulture funds’ in it. Blaming a vulture fund for buying distress assets is a bit like blaming a Plummer for clearing your blocked toilet. Neither created the mess.

          1. spudnick

You pay your Christopher Plummer for clearing your jacks, but you don’t have to give him huge tax breaks stretching into the future at the same time.

          2. dav

I don’t blame a vulture fund for doing what it does, might as well blame a wasp for stinging you. I blame athe government for supporting the vulture fund in doing what they do, at the expense of the state and it’s citizens. I refer you to the tax loopholes that allowed them to register as charities and pay very little tax. All very legal but immoral and scummy.

          3. MoyestWithExcitement

“their pension fund probably has ‘vulture funds’ in it.”

Yes, mate. Everyone has pension funds so vulture funds are a Good Thing. Right Wing Fantasy Land is *the* place to be. :D

          4. MoyestWithExcitement

“I don’t blame a vulture fund for doing what it does”

I do. Language sometimes presents us this problem where we forget what stuff actually is so people get a pass. People talk about ‘vulture funds’ and ‘the free market’ as being this sentient thing in of itself as opposed to a collection of human beings making conscious decisions for reasons usually centred around greed and apathy towards the wellbeing of their neighbours.

          5. Twunt

A vulture fund is the consequence of not servicing debt. They exist because someone created a need for it. Their behaviour is not something to be admired, but assets don’t end up there by accident. A bank selling to a VF is taking a loss, but they think it is worth it.

          6. Gimme Shelter

I agree with Moyest and his theory of right wing lalaland fantasy economics. Even a toddler learns that if he repeatedly throws his toys out of the pram there are consequences.

          7. MoyestWithExcitement

“A vulture fund is the consequence of not servicing debt. They exist because someone created a need for it. Their behaviour is not something to be admired, but assets don’t end up there by accident.”

Replace the term ‘vulture fund’ with ‘loan shark’ there and tell me if you feel the same about what you just said.

          8. Peter Dempsey

Loan sharks aren’t in the house mortgage market. The interest rates that some defaulters were on were actually quite low.

          9. Twunt

Equating Loan Sharks and Vulture Funds in this way is utter nonsense. You come across as financially illiterate.

          10. MoyestWithExcitement

“Loan sharks aren’t in the house mortgage market.”

Irrelevant. If vulture funds are an inevitable consequence of the existence of debts, so are loan sharks, so if you’re going to defend or “contextualize” vulture funds, you have to do the same for loan sharks.

          11. MoyestWithExcitement

“Equating Loan Sharks and Vulture Funds in this way is utter nonsense. You come across as financially illiterate.”

No, I equated your defence of one consequence of debt with another consequence of debt. You come across as *actually* illterate. I’d put money on you not having the first clue about anything finance related as well.

          12. MoyestWithExcitement

Also, your offended tone pretty much confirms your stance on vulture funds is emotional and thus ideological as opposed to being based on an objective analysis of the facts.

          13. Twunt

ahhh you are the one getting emotional and offended comrade. You come across as an idealistic, arsey know it all. Well read and probably well educated, but totally and odds with the reality of the world around you.

And I didn’t condone the actions of VF’s, I just tried to shed some light on the reason for their existing.

    1. SB

Well, supply & demand – if there’s a sudden glut of properties for sale, then prices will come down. Sounds sensible to me.

      1. Bertie Blenkinsop

Bendtner is still up front for Denmark isn’t he?

        I’ll take them so…

        * cue Bendtner hat trick in play offs *

          1. Gimme Shelter

Is that where he is now? Ah he just got too much too young and couldn’t handle it. Like Wayne Rooney.

The top three titles above must have received their first down payment from the €5m slush fund.
