Not fair to expect drivers to see things like this, that aren’t toxic neon yellow!
Cian
true – there should also be a ‘lamp post ahead’ warning sign 5m in front of all lamp posts.
Rob
That’s a beautiful lamppost, if it’s the one I’m thinking of. I used to live in a squalid flat near there. Terrible accommodation, but lovely looking road, including the lampposts.
martco
not being smart but there’s all sorts of reasons why a smack like this might have occurred…wouldn’t be so quick to take the p.
may have been a heart attack situation or someone taking the best way out when faced with hitting a cyclist cos some dumb fupp paying more attention to snappypoo on the phone steps out onto the road…
just sayin
Mr. Camomile Tea
A medical issue may be a genuine reason granted, but for any other scenario if the driver was going fast enough in a residential neighbourhood to hit a lamp post a serious smack like that, then the driver was driving too fast.
Too many drivers are exceeding the speed limits in urban areas. The consequences for pedestrians and cyclists are very often fatal. The irony is that drivers are simply haring from red light to red light, or from traffic queue to traffic queue.
edalicious
+1 quiet residential neighbourhood with a lot of schools within walking distance. Nobody should be driving fast around there in the morning.

Obviously it’s down to terrible parenting.

Wait, hold on. I see this happened in Dublin 6 and the car doesn’t appear to be a souped-up boy racer car so we don’t need to imply his parents are subhuman bums.
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
They might have come from a rotten aul poverty area, though, so hold yer horses.
MoyestWithExcitement
I’ll hold my horses alright, unlike those uncivilised tracksuit wearing bums from Tallaght and Clondalkin who travel around on horses but never take care of them on account of being uncivilised tracksuit wearing bums.
Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
Urgh.

Andyourpointiswhatexactly?
Is that good dope or bad dope? I just can’t keep up.
MoyestWithExcitement
All dope is good dope…..unless it’s that pollum crap.
martco
agreed
but looking at the motor there per pic the damage is fairly light, 30kph into a immovable bollard etc. would do that handy enough (im an ex mechanic & panelbeater btw)
TheRichList
Saw it happen, just poor driving involved.
MoyestWithExcitement
Why didn’t his parents raise him to be more responsible on the roa…wait, yeah, Dublin 6. I’m sure his parents are lovely and it’s not their fault.
SUV’s don’t fit on most of the neighbourhood roads in Dublin 6 area. That particular road is probably the widest in the area, so crashing there must have been speeding or a medical emergency.
Lamp posts should really be painted hi-viz
