Meanwhile, In Dublin Castle

This morning.

The Dublin Platform for Front Line Defenders conference.

A picture of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia is screened at the opening of the Dublin Platform,  a biennial event held to highlight the work of human rights activists and journalists around the world.

Ms Caruana, an anti corruption blogger, died yesterday after a bomb exploded in her car in Malta. She had been investigating matters relating to the Panama papers before her murder.

This is big and very dangerous. Malta is not long out of its shady past, and being small, has many arrangements and secrets that favour the few. Daphne was fearless, known all over the island and admired for her courage. Every one knows the government leadership stinks- but its proximity to Sicily and its ways make things less easy to say. This has the Mafia all over it.

They are not murdered but look our investigative journalists are treated. Frank Connolly, Gemma O’Doherty and Joe MacAnthony all hounded from their jobs.

Other investigative journalists are absorbed into the system by giving them a good living like Eamon McCann and Donal MacIntyre.

I think you’ll find that our investigative journalists are not actually immune from being murdered. I’m sure those three wouldn’t be in a rush to swap places with Veronica Guerin in a hurry

Sorry, should have read Isn’t Front Line Defenders still another one of REDACTED‘s gigs?

      Malta?

Still, applauding a sex pest like Clinton is more important.

Shure didn’t FF do a fine old trade in passports for “investment”? – I got mine that way, and I’m not the only Sheikh to avail of that facility ;-)
