The use of sacking and old rags as Halloween outfits was inventive when cashstrapped parents couldn’t afford to buy the made-to-wear imported supermarket packages. When twee ‘scary little monsters’ come to my doorstep looking for dosh I’ll challenge them to entertain me. Then they’ll get food but no cash. I have a right mind to tell them to visit a local graveyard the following day and say a prayer for relatives.

      Cash? Wot? Who gives cash?

Although I remember some cheeky fuppers looking for cash when they were doing the wren on Stephen’s Day. What’s worse was, their parents were with them and had driven them to the village: they weren’t local. I went all League of Gentlemen on them, Tubbs style.

In that case, just turn up at my doorstep on 31st October and say Trick or Treat. I give children and other scary monsters extra sweets and buns for inventive dress.
