DUP leader Arlene Foster on BBC
BBC reports:
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar “should know better” than to “play around” with Northern Ireland over Brexit, the leader of the Democratic Unionist Party says.
Arlene Foster accused Mr Varadkar of being “reckless” as Brexit talks enter a “critical phase”.
She was speaking after meeting Theresa May at Downing Street.
The Irish government says any hard border with Northern Ireland should be off the table.
…Speaking to BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg, Mrs Foster said: “Some people are taking their moment in the sun, to try and get the maximum in relation to the negotiations – and I understand that but you shouldn’t play about with Northern Ireland particularly at a time when we’re trying to bring about devolved government again.”

Truly does have a face like the proverbial bulldog licking urine off a nettle.
Irrelevant.
No. YOU are irrelevant.
Zinger!
Oh Zinger up your botty
a curse on both their houses
She has the Tories by the goolies and accuses others of playing with the north (which they are by the way!)
Says the woman who’s campaign for a UK brexit received funds (£425,000) from shady international lobby/ Private banking groups – nose. face. spite. Credibility vacuum.
Thank you for mentioning this. While there have been some media reports on it, relative to its importance, I think it has been shockingly under-reported.
Stop whingeing and “man” up and start acting like a proper country/government if you want to be treated like one.
A joke.
I love Paul Merton.
Knew you were a closet Arsenal fan
He said Paul MerTon, not MerSon.
:-)
(I know)
I have a soft spot for them since the 79 cup final.
The day I first felt real love for a man I didn’t even know.
A little bit of me died when he moved to United.
Not s fan of the DUP, but she has a point, foreign politicians interfering in t he domestic affairs of another country, well thats the type of thing Russia is criticised for….
Border has as much to do with Ireland as it does with the UK.
You do know what a border is, yes?
I think it’s the emotional state you exhibit after reading one of phil’s comments.
There’s almost a million Irish citizens on the other side of that border.
“almost a million”? stats please?
According to [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demography_of_Northern_Ireland#Passports_held], 21% hold an Irish passport – which is shy of 400,000;
There are another 430,000 Irish-born people resident in England/Scotland/Wales (which is arguably on the other side of the border)
… but even then we are at 830,000, which, IMO is not ‘almost a million’.
or how do you define “Irish citizen”?
I’d say that Wikipedia source is probably an underestimate since the Brexit farce started, but 400,000+ people is still a substantial number of people, a substantial amount of fellow Irish citizens, on the North-East corner of the island of Ireland, protected by the Irish constitution….I’m feeding a troll, dammit..
I wasn’t arguing that these are Irish citizens and deserve recognition – I was arguing the figure of one million.
An interesting point you raise – are they protected by the Irish constitution?
Am I protected by the Irish Constitution while I’m on holidays in Germany?
Oh wow, okay. I withdraw my point, as you are correct. 800+ thousand citizens is well below the threshold where we should give a crap / get involved. Thanks babes!
as I said above, my issue is you throwing out one million, when there are closer to 400,000 in NI
I’m sorry, I should have said that your point stands is still valid – albeit with the lower number of Irish Citizens.
I didn’t throw anything, Cian, as well you know. I typed words onto a comment box and pressed send. Nothing more physical occurred. Please retract your inaccurate and inappropriate charge and correct the record.
Actually Ahjayszis, are you on mobile? Because if not then you hovered the mouse over the send box and then you pressed the mouse button to send your comment.
My sincerest apologies ahjayiz for insinuating that your comment was ‘thrown’ rather than ‘posted’. No offence was intended.
He shouldn’t play around, he should hold out for some massive disproportionate short-term bribe then feck about with his country’s future for suffocating outdated historical and cultural reasons..
Do you often wonder what you vote for? I didn’t vote for Arlene Foster, she’s not in charge of me, No government at Stormont. It’s like a tits up situation here, Brexit , it’s great that we have such support from? Oh, no-one.
Lame Duck Politician there Arlene. Until you and all the other gomer politicians on all sides get the finger out and get the devolved Government back up and running, you have no say.
In the last few days Leo has annoyed The Sun and The DUP, great work.
Good point!
It’s not often I approve of FG’s actions in government – but can’;t fault their Brexit talk this week. Finally we’re not just hiding behind the EU council and commission.
Brexit will harm Ireland more than it ever can Britain.
At this very moment Ireland’s leader is back in his closet choosing which pair of socks he’s going to parade in when he’s next on the international stage.
Verruca is just a Poundshop Bertie Ahern.
Your are obsessed with his socks.
Do you charge your salmon to photos of leo in his socks ?
Just ignore the sad tosser.
Knotted.
Nice one Twunt.
She really is a toxic swamp of a walking sneer. The DUP are utterly awful, I pity Sinn Fein having to deal with their smug, inbred faces.
I think when one plays the man rather than the ball it rather indicates one has lost the argument.
Wouldn’t you think ?
Your bile and hatred belongs to the distant past thank goodness.
And there he is again – always recognizeable ;-)
For example when one goes on about the sartorial style of those with whom one politically disagrees?
Norn Iron politics.
Making Charles Manson seem sane by comparison.
I wonder has Mrs Foster forgotten that her “Country” voted to Stay.
Her “Country” voted @70% to remain, Scotland voted @99% to remain. Wales is Wales, England has the veto. The DUP wouldn’t be a great representation of Protestants in The North. I know a few, they appear to be great
