The Tanaiste should be sacked and not allowed to resign and sail off into the sunset with her golden handshake, like Noirin and Callanan before her.

how about running a department soo badly that the information it provided to the leader of the country caused him to mislead the Dáil twice within 1 week, eh?

        1. Twunt

The department of Justice and the Guards have shown they see themselves as being above the law. Frances is not the best Minister around, but it is hard when those beneath you are so incapable of telling simple truths.

….and this is only what the official email looks like…imagine the state of the gmail or worse still all the whatsapp convos!

What I’d love to know is what was so bad that Varadwankar had to phone Maurice McCabe on Tuesday to directly to stop him making whatever statement he was about to make???

And Callinan. Hardly a mention. DISGUSTING.

That man and his family for me deserves some sort of reward for all of this when it’s said and done – imagine your life as a regular joe (meant is nicest sense) not only having had to battle the considerable weight of the states dirty smear machinations up against you but now this Fossets Circus of a Dail to deal with!

It’s actually a warning by the Office of Budget Responsibility.
The same people who predicted an immediate UK recession in the event of a Leave vote.
Attempting to predict the British economy in five years time when talks on the future trading arrangements with the EU haven’t even started is a bit like attempting to convince the Irish that not everyone in the world loves them simply because they’re perceived as feckless drunks.
      Well nigh impossible.

“Attempting to predict the British economy in five years time when talks on the future trading arrangements with the EU haven’t even started…”

So, Charger, you’re saying that the medium-term fate of the British economy depends on the future trading arrangements with the EU?

        1. Charger Salmons

          Not entirely.
But economic ” experts ” from the IMF to the Bank of England and the Treasury have been proved embarrassingly wrong in recent years over their forecasts.
The current facts are that Britain is attracting record inward investment – the most of any EU country including Germany – and has the lowest unemployment rate in 40 years.
Business confidence is high, the City of London is booming with little sign of the predicted Brexodus and there’s little evidence that Britain’s position as the 5/6th largest economy in the world is under any real threat.

          1. Brother Barnabas

Where are you getting your figures, Charger?

Near universal consensus is that the UK economy is grinding to a halt – you’re looking at growth of 1.5% in 2017, 1.4% in 2018 and doing well to top 1% in 2019 – and that’s on the assumption that the UK’s external trade operates on ‘most favoured nation basis’ from mid 2019. But you’re not going to secure that with £40 billion or anything like it. Mood in Brussels now is not to grant that status to Britain no matter what. Britain’s on the brink of having no option other than to drop to one knee and plead
            for mercy.

You’ve also got the second slowest productivity growth in the G7 going back as far as 2010 – so way before Brexit was even an issue. Britain’s workforce is lazy and flabby, and that will become even more acute once migration controls are enforced. Old and slow population that can’t sustain itself.

Taxes will have to increase to pay for the ageing population, while household income plummets.

            It’s not looking good!

          2. Charger Salmons

            Not to worry Spuds.
Once the EU corporate tax harmonisation kicks in and Brexit destroys Ireland’s exports this country will look like Zimbabwe on a good day.
But at least the Wolfe Tones will have something new to sing about then.
            Wahaay !

          3. Brother Barnabas

I’m don’t see this as a competition in who’s going to be worse off, Charger. That’s infantile and parochial.

Brexit will adversely affect Ireland’s economic growth, that’s for certain. But it won’t affect it anything like it’s going to affect the UK’s economic growth. You’re going back to 1980s standard of living. I reckon you’ll be there by 2030. All for what? Jingoistic stupidity.

          4. Nigel

When the last vestige of empire is finally ground to dust in this massive act of self-immolation, the only thing left will be the vindictive racism.

          5. Charger Salmons

I count a Lithuanian and a Slovakian amongst my friends.
Both have worked in the UK.
Both assure me the racism they endure in Ireland is far worse and more common than anything they experienced in Blighty.
Your view from up there on the moral high ground must be obscured by some Irish mist.

          6. Game changer

That’s probably true there Charger about the racism, well done.

You haven’t addressed a single one of Brother’s points though – only to give impertinent Paddy one in the eye

          7. Nigel

No. The truth shall set you free. The catastrophic disarray and confusion of the Conservative Brexit efforts are gonna hurt.

          8. Naoml

So well said Nigel, on both your comments there, the man’s comments are racist and say more about him and his like, than anything else.

          9. Charger Salmons

” The Conservative Brexit effort ”
            Lols.
You do know this week Labour whipped its MPs into the lobby to help the Tories vote down an amendment in the Brexit bill that would have kept the UK in the Customs Union ?
Perhaps you were too busy flinging abuse at all and sundry.
This notion that Brexiteers are a bunch of Empire-loving racists is as misguided as the old jokes about the Irish being feckless, lazy drunks.
Perhaps it’s just the shame of belonging to a nation that voted against Lisbon but allowed itself to be bullied into voting the correct way a second time by a French midget.
The world and more importantly the rest of the EU knew then that Paddy is happiest being told what to do and when to do it.

          10. Nigel

‘Paddy is happiest being told what to do and when to do it.’

Can’t imagine where people get the idea that brexiteers are a pack of empire-loving racists.

The reason Flanagan’s eruption in the Dail last week seems to be getting clearer. Every last one of them have questions to answer now. FG is now imploding. No one knows internally who is really supporting who, or who are the various puppet masters.
Varadkar is a one term leader of FG and a less than one full term Taoiseach.
FF are likewise imploding. Micheal Martin must be the most useless excuse for a leader and supposed opposition leader that he country has experienced, and that’s saying something.

    1. Twunt

great analysis, except for the pesky fact that FG are up in the opinion polls and this mess was created by the Guards and the Justice dept, but do carry on.

      1. GiggidyGoo

So the ‘opinions’ of 1000 people, many who are serial contributors to the polls as they have registered to be contacted / polled give the reality of the nations opinion? Do the maths. And then look at how accurate polls have been in recent elections.
Who was, and is the ‘responsible’ Minister for the Gardai and the DOJ? And then answer who has allowed this to fester. Why, the Justice Ministers, none else.
Nice to see that Labour are reportedly going to support Fitz. Wasn’t it a Labour AG during Fitz’s tenure, who incidentally did a few u-turns of her own.?
FFGLAB are rotten to the core. The stench reeks throughout the Dail. The regular ‘correcting of the record’ by Kenny and now Varadkar tells it’s own story.
Would you still like me to carry on?

        1. Game changer

          NO don’t bother you’re boring
And haven’t engaged with the actual comment the other guy made. The public don’t care about this Dail bubble stuff and will still vote for Varadkar, Meehaul and Mary Lou next time out

          1. GiggidyGoo

Problems reading have you? I dealt with the opinion polls. I dealt with the Gardai and DOJ. What have you contributed?

          2. Game changer

How are you measuring my contribution?
You’d have to acknowledge it first instead of going back to your febrile ranting

  4. martco

I’m in moderation not sure why but anyways…

In all of this as a family fella myself I’m wondering what Maurice McCabes world must be like..the pressures on him and his family must be fierce…if he gets thru this in one piece if we end up with a rebooted dept of justice, police force I hope he’s suitably honoured/rewarded!

Also thinking there must be a significant level of support for him and others like John Wilson (remember him???) within the Guards yet not a peep out of them

  5. Amorphous Kerry Blob

I’m just looking at that photo of Ratko Mladić.
How does a person get like that. How does a person get to that stage. I’m not sure what I’m trying to ask.
