Oh god yes Foo Fighters… Noel Gallagher solo… Florence and the Machine… most of the beardy bands except Midlake… Michael Jackson… The Beach Boys… I could go on… :)
Tin Machine wasn’t to everyone’s liking (not to many people’s liking even) but Bowie was aware of it. He didn’t care. Always intended it as a temporary departure. He could have continued doing what he was doing, but admirably didn’t. No one individual has made a greater contribution to modern music than Bowie.
(And if Tin Machine hadn’t happened, there’d have been no Nirvana/grunge scene. Its worth will come to be appreciated in time ).
Charger Salmons
Well each to their own.
Personally my favourite LIVE rock band without a shadow of doubt was Status Quo.
Here’s the original line-up looking very ancient but still cranking it out.
And they even have a special message for their Irish fans at around 1.18.49.
Do enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVXBYGLHE-8

Here’s my favourite live band. Not the greatest musicians but for a live band they were excellent.

Squitter-free I’m afraid.
Attended the opening of a newly-refurbished pub tonight and the pints were deliciously cool and creamy.
Great selection of finger food ( the grilled shrimp and chicken skewers were to die for ) and didn’t hear a single person exercised about Brexit or the border.
Sometimes I think we all get too worked up about stuff which most folk couldn’t care less about.
Anyway,I hope you enjoy your weekend.
Toodle-pip,

@ Charger, there was a fabulous segment on the BBC NI news just now, with regard to Brexit, give it a viewing on Catch-up. Make sure you’ve an abundance of toilet rolls and wipes in for your skittery demise before you hit the cot.

Of course some music is timeless.
This classic embodies modern Britain with a traditional favourite being sung by a Peruvian ( hence the get-up ) with a Finnish conductor leading the orchestra and chorus.
The flags represent many countries and the EU flag show how close inclusive Brexit Britain hopes to be with its neighbours.
There’s even a Paddy proudly waving the Irish flag at the end.Good man yourself.
Rousing stuff and the perfect way to start a Friday evening on the turps.

That moment where he mocked the disabled reporter would have been the death knell for any other candidate, up to that point. Still sickening.
Spandau Ballet are the most over-rated “band” ever.
Bertie Blenkinsop
Are they really rated though?
I find Tom Waits unlistenable.
Charger Salmons
Agreed.
And here’s another one.
Bruce Springsteen.
A few good songs but essentially a pub rocker.
Brother Barnabas
going out on a limb that you have ‘born in the usa’ down as one of his few good songs
Charger Salmons
It’s a great stadium anthem but I prefer his slower stuff.
The Ghost of Tom Joad is a gorgeous album but I can take or leave most of the rest of his output.
It tended to be variations on a downtrodden, blue collar working man theme.
Sound feller though.Had a beer with him once when he was in London fighting a copyright infringement case in the High Court.
His brief was related to a friend of mine.
Anyway,I’m surprised you’re on here at this time – most of Ireland seems to be glued to a TV watching the Toy Show and recapturing their childhood.
RTE worked out decades ago that simple things work for simple folk.
Goebbels had it down to a fine art too when it came to sheeple.
Brother Barnabas
Extremely catholic taste in music, Charger.
Charger Salmons
I’m kinda old school in that I have 1500 CDs covering the walls of my Man Cave here.
I like getting them off the shelf and reading the sleeve notes.
At the moment I have Keb Mo playing to accompany a really nice bottle of South African Pinotage I’m sipping and next up is Bap Kennedy, the brother of Brian Kennedy, who died last year and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
It’s a sort of Americana groove I’m into tonight.
Yourself ?
Brother Barnabas
As a blending component, pinotage is fine, I suppose. Isolated, can’t stand alone. Saccharine and way too New World.

And now just firing up a Cohiba from the humidor to go with the plate of cheese and biscuits Mrs Charger Salmons has dropped in to keep me going.

Happy days.
Charger Salmons
I admire a man of taste but for four snots a bottle on offer from Aldi I’ll get down and dirty.
Brother Barnabas
I doubt that’s intended for consumption. Would you not just cork it and follow Mrs Salmon up the stairs? Sounds like it’s been a while.
Charger Salmons
Doubt it.
The chaps out in Adelaide start the Second Test around 3ish so we’ll aim for that.
A glass of port is next up I think and then we’ll see what the night brings after that.
Do you follow cricket at all ? I know it’s complicated and requires a reasonable attention span but you should try it some time.
Charger Salmons
My chum out at the ground just texted me to say it’s overcast and grey.
Hopefully the chaps win the toss and bowl first as those are ideal conditions for England’s bowling attack of Anderson and Broad.
Perfect to achieve some reverse swing and put those Aussie convicts on the back foot.

I reckon David Bowie was overrated.
