I’m sure that the people who work for Waterways Ireland are as sympathetic to Ireland’s homeless problem as the next person, but at the same time I probably wouldn’t want to be encountering “used syringes and human faeces” when I went to work, either.

I’m doubt if IW would do that – if a body were in the canal it is the police/ambulance that would be called first.

What’s the cause? Alcoholism, mental illness, drug abuse or inability to pay rent?
And why leave the place in such a mess?

They can stay in my garden.

I’m very good like that. They can use my bathroom too. And my kitchen.

Everybody here would do the same.

    God bless.

    Fairly grim….

Noticed some tents outside the back of cineworld on Saturday night. My kids were wondering why?
    It’s complicated…

how many homeless people would actually be able to live on their own in a rented property? is the correct support actually available?

In Dublin, anyone coming from homeless services is offered Support to Live Independently through Dublin Simon.

The “mess” is an attempt at drying bedding out. when you sleep in a tent in freezing cold temperatures then things get wet. when you have no facilities needs must. Utterly horrific situation and the assumption that they are all drug users, alcoholics or mentally unwell says more about us than them. Were I in the (easily achieved) de-humanising horror of homelessness I’ve no doubt I would be turning to whatever helped get me through the day. utterly devastating situation to be forced into.

Just claim minority ethnic status, burn some copper beside the tent and hey presto they can do as they wish.
