This is just a drill.

Via Defence Forces Ireland

The Defence Forces wishes to inform the public of a major exercise that will take place in the Dublin area today, Wednesday 6th December 2017.

The exercise will involve over 500 Defence Forces personnel, including the elite Army Ranger Wing, exercising with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána.

Members of the public can expect to see military vehicles, armoured vehicles, helicopters and armed personnel involved in the exercise.

We hope to keep any disruption to a minimum; however, this exercise is necessary to ensure that the Defence Forces are fully prepared when called upon.

Please follow Defence Forces Twitter @defenceforces for updates.

You’d probably be the very one complaining about how Ireland was shamefully unprepared to deal with an islamic terrorist attack.

-fold the rangers and a few other units into the ERU
-fold a portion of the army into Civil Defence
-offer good redundancy/retraining for the rest
-put the funding the army gets into the navy & airforce.

Ireland does not need an army, it hasnt needed one maybe since the end of the cold war (and even then the need was shakey). Ireland’s naval territory is shockingly under-patrolled, we do not have the aircraft or vessels to cover it properly. scrap the army and beef up our defenses where they are needed.

The Defence Forces and Gardai are basically Operation Transformation Social Welfare.
