Ugly Renaissance Babies

at

Many Renaissance artists depicted babies (most often the baby Jesus) as miniaturised old men, possibly because they conceptualised childhood differently to how we do now. Judging by some 15th and 16th century works, it’s almost as if the painter never laid eyes on a baby.

More unsightly old chiselers at the Ugly Renaissance Babies Tumblr. Their motto:

The kids aren’t alright.

The adults are manky too, though.
And we’ve all winced when looking at some babies. They’re not all completely adorable like babyandyourp.

when I first saw the then-around-6-months-old baby of my first friend to have a child, the mother almost warned me – saying, “now, haha, not going to win any bonny baby competitions but has the most beautiful temperament”. and it was true – pulled back the blanket and HORRIFIC. such an ugly child. now that kid is around 12 and it hadn’t got any better, unfortunately. and i cant comment on the temperament as baby but is a annoying pain in the swiss now. so it just goes to show, doesn’t it?

      Poor mini meadowlark…

She looked appallingly like a baked spud when she was born. Very strange altogether.
Now, of course, she is rather cute (and cheeky) and a pain in the arse because her comebacks are unbelievable for a four year old.

He’s actually how I picture Charger Salmon – squinty eyes, podgy little face, slightly greasy forehead

Some babies look like aliens. Peering out into the world.
So maybe these babies* aren’t far from accurate.
