The Luas on O’Connell Street, Dublin
This morning was the first Monday of the new Luas cross city service.
So how did that go?
Well.
Conor Pope, in The Irish Times, reports:
A traffic signalling failure in Dublin caused traffic chaos across the city on Monday morning, the first weekday of the new Luas cross city service.
Dublin City Council, the Luas and the Garda traffic division are all working to deal with the signalling failure which has seen the new tram line get off to a very rocky start on its first day of ferrying serious volumes of commuter traffic.
Oh.
What a shit show the #LuasCrossCity was this morning!!!

Lad from work:
I got the #Luas this morning
Got off at Stephen’s Green as usual, forgetting it goes all the way now
Walked down Grafton St, got a McD’s breakfast & walked to Westmorland St
And there it was to my right – the same Luas I got off earlier!
I beat it #LuasCrossCity— Richie (@RichieCorcoran_) December 11, 2017
The #LuasCrossCity added 30 mins to my commute this morning. Carnage at College Green 😔

#LuasCrossCity has completely gridlocked #dublin city centre. All the main arteries intersecting it are at a standstill.

Never again, if I walked to work backwards I would’ve got here quicker #LuasCrossCity

I think I now have squatter’s rights on D’Olier Street. #LuasCrossCity

42 minutes for my bus to get down O’Connell St and past College Green?!?! Thanks for a terrible commute #LuasCrossCity

Yikes.
Signal failure creates gridlock as Luas cross city hits first rush-hour (Irish Times)

That Kelly Mahoney sounds like a right dose.
‘What do I like? Politics, sports, HR, and humor. I have opinions.’ I read that as options, but those aren’t options.
You’d want to hear what she says about you.
What’s most interesting is how Northsiders to have pretend to themselves that working class southside areas; Rialto, Fatima, Inchicore, Bluebell and Drimnagh don’t exist in order for their jaded Northside/poor Southside/rich narrative to work.
you’re right
that IS interesting
What has that got to do with anything mentioned in the post? I didn;t read one northside/southside comment in it.
Don’t forget Irishtown. That place is nearly as grim as some parts of Tallagh.
I got it this morning at around 9:20 from Parnell Street to Central Park without issue. It seems to be northbound trams that were more affected. Teething problems hopefully.
These posts are indicative of how self- absorbed we’ve all become.
“Carnage” “chaos “- they sound like the Daily Express. I mean wowza a while 30 minutes extra!?!!! At Christmas?!? Truly shocking. Fire everyone involved. Burn down their houses. Torch their villages.
Idiots
Goodness. You don’t sit on the fence, do you???
I don’t. I stand astride my chariot Killian.
I like your style. And your chariot.
Also tram-spotting Richie probably needs to get laid
How boring would you have to be to take to bloody twitter to moan about your journey to work taking that bit longer than expected. What next. I had to wait an extrat 15 mins at the dentist . Get a life or at least some level of self-awareness. No need to tell the world you have nothing else going on in your life. Idiots.
So that’s why I’d a púnt of a job getting inta work this morning
Get on a bike Kelly.
I’m reminded of a comment I made last week, “Tá Luas mhaith, leath an toibre, it’s more apt today in its original idiomatic form, “Tá tús mhaith, leath an toibre (A good start, is half the work). I doubt, however, someone who walks backwards to work, and thinks they’ll get there before using the Luas, has any future in their current employ. However, this is good news for the South Dublin residents who feared a rise in crime, with the extension of the service. It appears the North Siders favour walking backwards than using the Luas.
It’s “tús maith, leath na hoibre”.
Luas maith, late for hoibre.
Sure, that makes more sense. It’s been a while since I exchanged idiomatic Irish, Col.
Nice one, Nigel! Isn’t the Irish language great? Perhaps, the odd grant or two, oh, the crocodile thing?
Its almost like buidling additional public transport on the ground level has added to the cities traffic complications, who would’ve thought??
Na man that’s an illusion
How could putting something in the same place as another thing cause issues?
Brrombridge to Ranelagh in 23 minutes on Luas. It would take two buses and an hour and 10 minutes otherwise. This must have been before the gridlock, though; we passed the city centre before 8.
I hope you tweeted you’re happiness with your experience today.
I have it on my to-do list to create a Tweeter account.
It’s the first work day!
“Never Again !” says Porter Paddy “Carnage” says Diarmuid Keane
What utter,utter,utter whingers.
Give it a chance ffs!
boo hoo. If able-bodied, then why can’t they walk, it’s really not very far across the city.
it’s Baltic man
Ranelagh to Parnell st took 40 min this morning. Takes that to walk it
IT’S THE FIRST FREAKIN DAY. GIVE IT A CHANCE PEEEEPUULLLL.
Wait till the 1st crash
darn near all crashes were caused by the car/van/bus drivers not the luas.
Yeah… what was the result of the inquiry into the Luas V Dublin Bus crash on O’Connell st a few years ago?
