Now we can settle back and look forward to a nice, civilised, on-topic debate until the referendum in May.

I heard Ronan mullen on morning Ireland, calling some of the experts testimonies as ,sic “describing the killing of children”.
I’m kinda surprised he didn’t start attacking the doctors for this as they gave testimony, then again he may have ended up debating with them and showing how thick he really is…

I don’t pay too much attention to him, but he always seems to be complaining that the whole thing is unfair because all the experts disagree with him.

Leaving aside fact that she’s FG, I like her a lot. She’s very capable. Got the smarts and all that. She’d be a good leader of FG. Still wouldn’t make me vote for them, mind. And she’s been brilliant on the committee, in fairness.

Women will lie about being raped
Women will lie about being suicidal
    Women will lie.

Antis really hate women, don’t they?

        1. Warden of the Snort

Ah now Daisy you’re an awful divil so you are!

but to your answer your question – no – except during post-coital conversation with Brother Barnabas/Rob_G above

          1. Brother Barnabas

Brother B does not engage in post-coital conversation, Warden. Brother B says what needs to be said with his winkle.

          2. Brother Barnabas

I like to combine ebullient boastfulness with needy self deprecation, Warden. I hope it conveys that I’m just playing.

If women do lie about these things its because they are forced to by a society that doesn’t trust them to make decisions about their own bodies. It’s all about control and it’s time to give control back to women.

      1. Warden of the Snort

in a perfect world he’d get preggers himself “outside of” marriage and then have to explain himself or go to a magdalene laundry because his mammy wouldn’t like him any more

I’d like to see what Govt decide to do with this now. And what legislation for abortion they propose if/once 40.3.3 is removed.

I doubt removal of 40.3.3 will pass a referendum though. Because of the killing.

    1. ReproBertie

Tell you what newsjustin, why don’t we put it to a vote of the people before we decide the outcome of the referendum?

      1. newsjustin

Ah yeah. Silly me. I bet I’ll be the only person speculating on the result between now and then.

        1. newsjustin

I see the committee rejected a proposal to allow for abortion in any circumstances up to 22 weeks.

Which begs the question. What is the substantive difference between an 11 week foetus and a 13 week old foetus. And why it’s ok to abort one but not the other.

          1. Taunton

12 weeks is the end of the first trimester, it is considered a safe time to begin telling people you are expecting as the chance of miscarriage drops at this point.

          2. Cian

What’s the substansive difference between a 17 year and 360 day old child and an 18 year and 5 day old?
But one has more rights than the other.
The laws are written with specific ages for certain things.

          3. Sham Bob

I assume by that reasoning you’re against aborting at any point after fertilisation – but on the off chance you’re not, you can take that line of questioning the other way – what’s the difference between a pair of cells, a ball of cells, a bigger ball of cells, a bigger one again and so on all the way up to birth. Of course there’ll be different milestones during the development of the foetus, but they’re identified and given their meaning by us, not Jesus or his dad. So maybe it’s time to have a sensible discussion about that without all the histrionics about murdering babies.

          4. newsjustin

Fair point Cian. Doesn’t affect the right to life, but does for voting rights, etc

I agree Sham. Worth having the discussion (which many dislike) of why people protect the right to life of some but not to others a week older.

Finally, common sense on this issue begins to prevail against ignorance…

    See, democracy works!… EVENTUALLY…
    – However many decades it has been long overdue I’m not so sure about though?…

Anyway, fair play to all involved.in getting it this far… and spare a thought for all the stark raving loon’s at the candle-light vigil outside Leinster house tonight.
