Fight what? FDI that creates employment?

    Terrific plan.

I would assume to fight the reliance on FDI and try to develop home grown industry to create employment?
Easy come easy go, so they say.

I’m not sure that we should have to make a binary choice.

I’m not quite sure why we have struggled so much to develop more successful indigenous companies – market size, cultural, historical, policy?

I know. Let’s extend the PRSI breaks (refund) for taking on someone more than one years unemployed for another three years, so that call centers can fill their boots, and the unemployment figures look great. No monetary benefit to the state mind you, as tax income will be minimal, and PRSI income in cancelled out by the refunds to the companies.

Up until perhaps three years ago the IDA published a downloadable file on their website every year giving a breakdown by company name, origin country, job numbers created. However they were caught out on a few occasions as their figures weren’t accurate. Some jobs were counted two/three times in the same year. Coca Cola in particular were identified as creating 200jobs in Drogheda, 200 in Wexford and 200 in Waterford (yep, Waterford) when in fact the only 200 figure was in Wexford.
The IDA no longer supply that downloadable information. I wonder why?

Or because they were purposely doing it. Richard Bruton was out every second day announcing 100 new jobs here, 500 there, and when all was said and done, he was (and the IDA was) shown to be a bluffer. Did those 500 new Paypay jobs materialise that were announced three years ago? Did some companies that set up here, took on a workforce then closed the manufacturing/software operation, but kept the shiny nameplate on an office?

I’m not wondering at all. You told me why.

Ha HA! I’m way smarter than you.
