Today’s Head Today

Barry McElduff

“It is with great sadness that, after more than 30 years as an active Sinn Féin member and public representative, I am tendering my resignation as MP for West Tyrone,” he said.

“The reason I am doing so is because of the consequences of the Twitter video which caused such controversy over the last week. But the deep and unnecessary hurt this video caused the families of Kingsmill is my greatest regret.

“Had I been conscious of the connection to the terrible atrocity at Kingsmill, I would certainly not have posted that tweet. I genuinely did not make that connection.”

“Had I been conscious of the connection to the terrible atrocity at Kingsmill, I would certainly not have posted that tweet. I genuinely did not make that connection.” That should have been bolded.

Yeah. Just like all those Orange parade marchers holding up 5-finger salutes when passing the bookmakers where 5 nationalists had previously killed. Sure they were just waving! No connection.

I think danc is pointing out that it’s the same sort of behaviour and equally horrible rather than whatabouting. At least I hope so.

I think the important distinction here is that McElduff is an elected official rather than some anonymous yobbo, and as such his behaviour is being held to a higher standard.

Or you know, his pension. From his pensionable job. You know like, his legal activities.
You know, like the pensions the politicians you like and canvass for are entitled to.
But yeah, let’s go with your smeary post instead.
        Such a hypocrite Cian.
But it’s par for the course with a toady like yourself.

Y’know, he seems like an inspiring chap. He might inspire me to solve the final clue in my crossword.

It took long enough. That eoin fella from SF on Marian at the weekend was beyond frustrating. The closing ranks mentality shows me why they are too immature and entrenched a party for the government right now. There is so much of this going on lately. People in these positions just seem to think that having a filter and being conscious of the consequences of what comes out of your mouth is not important anymore… It shows a serious gap when it comes to emotional intelligence.

I agree that the attempted justifications were cringworthy, but he has resigned. Do you think anyone in FFGLAB would have done so?

    ‘surprised it took this long

this ape has a tribe of equally entrenched lackies around him
for them Sinn Fein politics and activities is all about the Chuckie

They can’t deal with the current political environment or the opportunity they have to make a real contribution at Governing on both sides of the border
they’re not even capable of a conversation with the likes of Mary Lou and Donnacadh & Co on any policy issue, naw’ mind represent Sinn Fein to the electorate

A future singing songs and telling tales in the pubs of Boston while Yanks in imported Aran geansais pour drink down their gullets
The best place for them btw
