I am not a fan of Mrs. McAleese. I’ll never forget her ‘WOW’ during Queen Elizabeth’s speech. I still cringe when I see it. I alos found her rhetoric during her presidency shallow and unhelpful
Why she wants to be a member of this Church is beyond me.
Her son of course is gay and she may be on a bit of a crusade to change this church from within , but why? Can she not get validation, spiritual or otherwise elsewhere?
I have to admit, I don’t understand people who seek solace in religion. It’s childish in my opinion.
On another note, Fianna Faíl are hoping to parachute her son in to a South Dublin constituency for the next election. Remember Mrs. McAlesse was a Fianna Faíl candidate herself.

I think Mary was probably the best president we ever had. She had an uncanny knack of connecting with ordinary people and travelled the length and breath of the country to do so. She also reached out to the loyalist community in the north which had never been done before.
As for the Catholic Church, she is a fully paid member and has an MA in cannon law. She has a ‘change from within’ approach and was able to influence people during the marriage referendum that nobody else could reach. She is a very intelligent and astute lady.
