I dont understand this obsession with female presenters. Katy had a great gig for a few years as prime times political corr. it amounted to appearing on prime time once a week for a few minutes.

5 years ago, or thereabouts, I told a couple of tipsy pals that every sports programme on RTE would be presented by a woman, sooner or later. Women’s sport will never achieve the profile of the men’s, and so the Powers That Be would feel the need to shoe-horn women into sports coverage, somewhere, somehow. In light of Joanne Cantwell’s appointment as presenter of The Sunday Game my wee prediction is panning out pretty well.
Looking at the new presenters of the Late Debate it looks like my crystal ball erred rather conservatively. EVERY single show on RTE will be presented by the fairer sex, sooner or later.
Not saying it’s right or wrong. Just the way the wind’s a blowin’.
