An Bord Pleanála restrict the number of concerts in Croke Park to three a year.

Too many gigs can take their toll
So locals are having a poll
To find out if they
Will give the okay
For one last chance to let the Stones roll

Don’t want the disruptions of living next to a stadium? Don’t live next to a fupping stadium.

I used to live across from the RDS. The windows of my apartment used to shudder: it’s incredible how loud the concerts are. Twas like Bruce Springsteen was in my apartment with me, roaring at me.
I have to say, the concert that sounded like the most fun was Rod Stewart. He was having great craic with the crowd.

  2. Fact Checker

When the development was mooted over 20 years ago the GAA was very clear that there would only be three non-sporting events a year.

Should these requirements be fixed in stone?

Is it really much more disruptive than a sports event?

Hasn’t a ‘Croke Park Discount’ been baked into local house prices for half a century now?

    I don’t really know.

it’s not late night. “Late Night” music events begin at 11pm and run until 3am and do not include live music. Croke follows the same licensing laws as every other live music venue and will be finished by 11pm.

So at 11pm, it all goes completely quiet and no noise? Although the average stones fan now might leave early to beat traffic….

They’re argument is that for a one or two night concert, the noise and traffic disruption continues for 2 weeks because of stage set up and take down. GAA matches are different. I know that every concert and match has between 200 to 400 tickets allocated for residents (usually a lottery draw) but from looking at the picture in the article, there doesn’t look to be too many Taylor Swift fans in that audience (although they’re probably all younger than Jagger).

I have Mixed Emotions about the Stones playing. It’ll be a lot of Dirty Work getting the residents on-side.

    I’ll see myself out.

With the prices of tickets I hope it doesn’t go a head. Croke park is an awful place for a gig. If its cancelled maybe they might do the 3 Arena. Very very doubtful though.

agree on croker but you make that sound like the point depot is a great place for a gig….sure the sound is utterly brutal there too, only decent gaffs we have are small ones unfortunately

      1. Neilo

I’m agog at how poor the sound quality is in the 3 Arena’s tiered seating: live drums sound like Tupperware containers being beaten with damp sponges.

Croke Park has been buying up any house that comes up for sale in the area.

They’re demolishing 40 (I think) now to leave loads of space for the lorrys, buses, etc, so as to cause less stress on the neighbours.

  6. Friscondo

They’ll be touring the Stones corpses one day, at this rate. They long ago became a tribute band to themselves. “Live” is used in the loosest possible sense.

Jagger’s still singing and Charlie remains imperious on the tubs. Woody is a competent enough player. I don’t necessarily buy the Blondie Chaplin theory, but I think Keef’s guitar was unplugged many years ago. There’s no doubt that the Strolling Bones crack team of sidemen has been doing the heavy lifting for the longest time but if you take the E Street Band out of the equation and you’re left with a nodule-ridden sanctimonious busker (see also Continuity Eagles, Continuity Steely Dan, Continuity Pink Floyd etc).

        Hey as an aside
anyone know if Django Django are a good live act ?
playing Friday and I am dithering
